Fortnite is partnering with yet another video game brand, this time one of the oldest and most iconic: Tetris. The block-based game is set to be featured in a Fortnite Creative map from playSTUDIOS, the company that developed the mobile app for the game on iOS and Android.
This isn’t a new endeavor for Epic Games, who have firstly worked with quite a few different video games (Among Us, Tomb Raider, God of War, Lethal Company, Metal Gear Solid, Fallout, etc.) and secondly have integrated so many collaborations into Creative islands. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Fortnite x Tetris crossover.
Tetris Color Climb! tournament series in Fortnite Creative to reward $10,000
The Fortnite x Tetris crossover is much like the Only Up maps that players have created in Unreal Editor before. This collaboration, titled Color Climb!, is going to involve players climbing the iconic Tetriminos to avoid falling down. Cherry Pick Talent is assisting with the collaboration. Aside from the familiar blocks, there will be Easter eggs for fans of the long-running video game franchise.
There will be tournaments with a $10,000 prize pool at stake. Players can play in the mobile Tetris app. There, they can compete with popular streamers and content creators for a chance to win.
“Tetris is one of the most iconic and beloved gaming titles of all time,” said Andrew Pascal, founder and CEO of playSTUDIOS. “And the fact that it’s as popular today as it was 40 years ago is a true testament to the elegance of its design and The Tetris Company’s ability to keep their brand fresh and relevant in the everchanging entertainment landscape. Our integration with Fortnite Creative not only offers an exciting new way to engage the next generation of Tetris players on a competitive global stage, but also it gives playSTUDIOS an opportunity to reward fans.”
playSTUDIOS will host tournaments on September 17, 25, 28, and October 2. Aside from the tournaments on Color Climb!, playSTUDIOS will offer real-world prizes through the Tetris app between September 12 and October 4.
Players can use in-game currency to enter for a chance to win prizes. These include a Playstation Gift Card, a Nike shopping spree, and a vacation to Las Vegas with two tickets to Friday Frags Fortnite at the HyperX eSports Arena. The collaboration in Fortnite goes live today and ends on October 4.
