After going 2-1, FLY will now face HLE for a chance to qualify in the top 8 at Worlds. Will they manage in the incredible upset? Let’s break it all down in our preview.
HLE vs FLY – it’s time to put the team to the test
Following their close series against Gen.G, HLE are back this week to earn their last series win to lock a top 8 finish. And among all the 2-1 teams, the LCK team probably got one of the easiest opponents to face on paper, FlyQuest.
The LCS team managed to somehow get a 2-1 score after drawing two weaker teams (GAM and PSG) and DK, to whom they lost. Considering HLE has been a stronger team than DK throughout the whole year and even judging by the performances at Worlds, this might be quite a one-sided series that should see HLE qualify. But is there a slim of hope for FLY and what would those elements be?
Match Breakdown
If top laner Bwipo has been struggling to make a major difference in the top lane, FLY can currently rely on their bot lane of Massu and Busio. The two have looked the best among all the members and while their opponents in the Swiss stage weren’t the strongest, they have shown the ability to take over games when it mattered.
Facing Viper and Delight will be both a big test and an opportunity to learn from one of the strongest bot lane duos in the world. If they were to keep up, it would be a good confidence boost for the rest of the tournament.
My attention, however, will mainly go to the jungle matchup. Inspired was arguably the best LCS jungler this season and he will have the chance to prove his worth against a world-class player like Peanut. If he were to make a difference, he would be the factor to put FLY into possible contention.
Nonetheless, it will be tough to be consistently better across a Bo3 series. HLE was able to fight and contest Gen.G so it’s unlikely they will have a big fall in form all of a sudden. For FLY, it will likely have to come to the last round, hoping they can get a good draw to increase their chances of qualification.
