Group B of the Thunderpick WC 2024 saw another exciting day of online Counter-Strike, after yesterday’s Group A action saw 3DMAX progress to the next stage with ease. This time, it was The MongolZ, Cloud9, Fnatic, and 9z Team who had to fight for their spot in the next round – here’s how it went.
The MongolZ win Thunderpick WC 2024 Group B
On paper, you’d probably have The MongolZ down as favorites to qualify out of Thunderpick WC 2024 Group B. They came through without losing a map, although that’s not to say it came easily. It was Cloud9 first up, with both maps finishing 13:11 in favor of The MongolZ. Next was Fnatic, where the scores were 13:11 and 13:7. The MongolZ were really made to work for their wins, a spot in the next round reward for their efforts.
Of The MongolZ players, only Techno struggled to get into the matches. He was bailed out by the rest of his team, who all came into the tournament ready to deal some damage, with IGL bLitz in particularly scorching form. The MongolZ now head to the Playoffs Play-in for this CS2 tournament, where the team have the chance to secure a spot in November’s Thunderpick WC 2024 LAN event.
Cloud9 survive by the skin of their teeth
After losing their first match against The MongolZ, Cloud9 found themselves on the brink of elimination. Their opponent in the fight for survival was 9z Team, who have had some great results in 2024, notably a Semi-Final berth at IEM Dallas 2024. Luckily, they were able to put a quick series to bed 2:0 on Mirage and Anubis.
Realistically, Cloud9 only remain in the competition due to the brilliance of HeavyGod. The Israeli rifler was on fire as he posted a 44:22 statline, leaving 9z Team with nothing to offer in response. If nothing else, dgt had a solid series, but it was nowhere enough to make a big difference.
Here’s the current state of play. The MongolZ are through, 9z Team are out, while Cloud9 and Fnatic live to fight another day. Got it? Tomorrow, the Thunderpick WC 2024 continues with Group C, where Heroic, Legacy, Imperial, and Ninjas in Pyjamas will all make their tournament debut. Don’t miss it!
