“Exclusive: Spotify tests letting artists promote NFTs on their profiles. US / Android only with a v small group of artists: Steve Aoki and The Wombats appear to be involved”.
The two testimonies of what is happening in Spotify are released by Steve Aoki and The Wombats, the artists participating in the test and the early adopters of NFTs.
A Spotify spokesperson said:
“Spotify is running a test in which it will help a small group of artists promote their existing third-party NFT offerings via their artist profiles. We routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences. Some of those tests end up paving the way for a broader experience and others serve only as an important learning”.
Spotify and the promotion of NFTs (no sale)
From what emerges, Spotify’s testing will only be used by artists to promote their NFTs and not to sell them on the platform.
In fact, selected users of Spotify’s Android app in the US will be able to preview NFTs on artists’ profile pages and purchase them from external marketplaces.
Moreover, Spotify will not take part in the sales of NFTs promoted through its platform. Hence, this is pure advertising.
At the end of the test, based on the data recorded, the global music streamer will decide whether to make this function operational for all artists.
But Spotify’s entry with NFT does not stop there. It seems that some Spotify users also received a survey from the platform to find out their opinions on Non-Fungible Tokens.
In the Roblox metaverse
While these are Spotify’s first tests in the NFT sector, the platform has wasted no time when it comes to the metaverse.
In fact, earlier this month, Spotify launched its new island in the Roblox metaverse, describing it as the “paradise of sound”, aiming to offer new interactive and virtual experiences to fans and artists.
Through Spotify Island, Roblox users will be able to mingle with artists, complete interactive missions and unlock exclusive content. Players will also be able to enjoy an immersive audio experience by creating music and exploring sounds on virtual beat-maker stations powered by Soundtrap.
