Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage is here and we’re starting off with a banger: MDK will face tournament favorite BLG in the opening series.
BLG vs MDK – A good test for the LEC team
After a bloody play-in stage with lots of surprises and upsets, the top 16 teams have been locked in for Worlds 2024. A tight schedule is about to hit us and there is little time to prepare in between series, as there will be 8 matches on the first two days. It’s been getting increasingly harder to nail the pick’ems too, given that there is always a surprise or two that will likely shock fans.
This, however, shouldn’t be really the case with the BLG and MDK series. While the LEC team did a great job by looking strong in the play-ins stage and finally breaking the curse, the odds are against them when facing the #1 seed from the LPL.
On the other hand, however, getting such a strong team in the first round might be a good sign since it means they won’t face them anymore going forward and it will also be a good test to see how much of a gap there is against the Eastern regions.
Match Breakdown
Based on how MDK performed in play-ins, we can safely say that the guys are in good form. Supa and Alvaro delivered and it will be interesting to see the bot lane 2v2 with Elk and ON. Myrwn will also have a great time sparring with Bin and we might see sparks if the LEC top laner decides to pull out some of his special picks.
Elyoya can match Wei early on and he might be the enabling factor for MDK. Fresskowy is probably the one with the worst time ever – laning against Knight will be stressful, to say the least.
Overall, BLG is likely taking the match so don’t get too much hopium. As long as MDK are able to hold strong and not get dismantled, it will be a good enough result.
