With teams getting ready for LoL Worlds 2024, players will have access to Champions Queue to improve their practice.
Champions Queue at Worlds 2024
The announcement came from Karmine Corp’s LEC assistant coach Žiga “Apples” Jereb, who announced the return of the special queue prior to the start of the Worlds play-in stage. All teams qualified for Worlds will be able to take part.
First introduced back in early 2022 in North America and implemented globally during the League of Legends 2022 World Championship, Champions Queue is an invite-only structured system that allows pros and high-elo players to practice in a different environment from the traditional solo queue. All invited players will get access to a dedicated server that organizes matches, using a different elo system to track the records. In Europe, Champions Queuewas also implemented during the 2023 MSI when teams were playing in London.
The advantage of the system is mainly related to the quality of games since most players are pros or high-elo players with a strong tryhard mentality, improving the competitiveness of both teammates and opponents.
Which players will be part of the Champions Queue?
- Worlds 2024 players (including substitutes)
- LEC starting players
- ERL players and LEC substitutes currently ranked Challenger on live servers in 2024
- Players from Worlds-qualifying leagues participating in a bootcamp in EMEA
- ERL players and former pros approved by the EMEA CQ player council
- Former pro players who competed in at least two splits of a region that qualified for Worlds 2024
Where to watch it
Apples has revealed there will be selected content creators that will be able to co-stream the Champions Queue matches, although streaming will be prohibited during live Worlds broadcasts. Names are yet to confirmed.
Regardless, Champions Queue is what peak solo queue should be like and it will be a golden opportunity for both fans and pros to witness the highest level of LoL that is not defined by teams.
