ChatGPT has recently released a critical update for its macOS app, bringing the “Memory” feature into focus for its users in Europe and South Korea. This marks a fundamental change, which lets the users in these regions save their preferences and personal information on the chatbot and, therefore, receive more personalized replies every time.
This ‘Memory’ feature, which was not launched in Europe and South Korea in the beginning, allows the chatbot to retain user information such as the format of answers desired, life details, and previous engagements. By turning on this feature, users can customize how ChatGPT responds to their queries, resulting in a more personalized interaction.
ChatGPT expands memory feature to users in Europe and South Korea
With this new key feature, ChatGPT users from the EU and Korea can now benefit from the “Memory” option which allows the chatbot to recall user-specific details across multiple sessions. For instance, users can request remembering preferences such as “I like concise responses” or “I just got a puppy.” Such preferences will be incorporated into future engagements, making responses more appropriate and personalized.
Users must, first of all, update their ChatGPT macOS app to the new version to enable this feature. After updating, users can navigate to the settings by clicking the profile icon in the screen’s top right corner. From there, the user will select the “Personalization” tab, which will provide the toggle option for the “Memory” feature. With this function turned on, the chatbot will be able to save and remember some of the things that it has learned, making it more beneficial to the user.
For example, if a user declares to the chatbot, “I prefer meeting notes in bullet points,” this information will be stored and used in future notes accordingly. This ability to save preferences is changing how the chatbot works with the users by enhancing and individualizing the conversations.
Users gain full control over stored data in ChatGPT
One of the most notable features of this update is the ability of the user to control the information that the chatbot saves. The users have full rights to the information that needs to be retained. Any of the specific information can be viewed and erased as per the user’s wish. Also, the chatbot provides a “Clear ChatGPT’s memory” option which deletes all the stored information in one click.
This memory functionality allows ChatGPT users in Europe and South Korea to have the flexibility to use the chatbot according to their preferences. More importantly, it is completely optional and those who do not want to save any data would be able to continue using ChatGPT without turning on the memory option.
