The Doctor Doom Island is one of the most overpowered things Epic Games has introduced in a very long time.
The island, if captured, presents players with the chance to become Doctor Doom. This makes them almost unkillable (500 health, 500 shield, 200 siphon per elimination). It also gives them incredibly powerful weapons to fight with. There’s no guarantee it will spawn in any game, but Epic did recently buff the spawn rate. However, it’s now back to spawning at a normal, extremely infrequent rate.
Doctor Doom Island Spawning Rarely Once Again
When it first debuted, the Doctor Doom Island had just a 5% chance to spawn in place of Loot Island. There was no real indicator. Players who wanted it just had to wait for Loot Island to spawn and see if their match was one of the lucky ones. If it was, they would then have to fight tirelessly with essentially the rest of the lobby to get the new Mythic. On September 6, the spawn rate was buffed.
After that, it had a 12% chance of spawning in. That’s still relatively small, but it was more than double the chance it had previously. However, as of Monday, September 9, leakers have announced that the frequency has gone back down to normal. This is virtually the Chapter 5 Season 4 version of Thanos’ gauntlet from the 2019 LTM Avengers Endgame, but it’s in the main Battle Royale mode. That may make the Mythic even more overpowered. Either way, the low spawn rate is Epic’s way of balancing it.
Since the item gives players a very good chance of winning, it makes sense for it to be an extremely rare spawn. If it happened in every game, players who didn’t capture it or who wanted to play normal BR would be out of luck most of the time. Epic tried briefly upping the rate, but that seems to have backfired as the update lasted three days before going back to normal. Once again, it’s very rare to find the island in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4.
