The card evolution feature was introduced in Clash Royale back in June 2023 and since then, players have been looking for different ways to evolve cards in the game. The evolved cards simply grant the new powers for cards they already own which increases their chances of winning the battle. If you’re also wondering how to evolve cards in Clash Royale, you’re in luck.

How to evolve cards in Clash Royale
To turn cards from their normal version into their evolved version in Clash Royale, you need shards. There are two different types of shards in the game — Evolution Shard and Wild Shard. A Wild Shard can be used on any troop that is evolvable, while an Evolution Shard is troop-specific. For example, a Barbarian Evolution Shard can only be used on Barbarians.
When you want to evolve one of these Clash Royale cards, you select the card, go to your magic items, and you’ll see the option to use your shards on it. For example, the Barbarians require six shards to evolve. Once you’ve gathered all six shards, the evolution is complete, and you now have an evolved Barbarian with special powers.
How to get Shards in Clash Royale?
So, how do you get these shards? As mentioned, there are two different types. You can obtain Evolution Shards from Pass Royale, the Season Shop, challenges, shop offers, Path of Legends, and the Level Up Chest after reaching level 50 (emphasis on the Level Up Chest after level 50). Wild Shards, on the other hand, are only available in the shop and the season shop.
Clash Royale Evolution Slot explained
Once you have evolved a card, you can put this brand-new evolved card in your deck, but there’s a special spot for it called the Evolution Slot.
Your first Evolution Slot will unlock at King Level 7. To use a Card Evolution in your deck, you need to place the card that has the Evolution unlocked into an Evolution Slot in your deck. If placed in any other slot on your deck, the card will function as normal, and the Evolution will not appear when that card is played.
If you go into battle with a Card Evolution in one of your Evolution Slots, you will notice Dark Elixir drops appear on the top of the card in your hand. The amount of these drops shows how many times you need to play the card (Cycle) before you are able to play the Evolution.
