Six years following on from its inception, Immutable Games’ inaugural TCG Gods Unchained is bringing back player tournaments, a relic from the game’s early days. The first one, called Flashback: Genesis, is a bracketed tournament using the recently released Formats game modes. It will run on Gods Unchained’s tournament platform GU Stakes between 13th-15th September.
Selected on a first come-first serve basis, participants are limited to only 256, who will compete in eight best-of-3 single elimination rounds. The tournament features rewards like rare cards – notably, the one-of-a-kind collectors card Alborax Mythic Variant, in addition to a total prize pool of 5,000 GODS tokens, worth around $500.
Card sets allowed include Genesis, Etherbots, Core, and Welcome.
“We’re really excited to revive player tournaments and use Flashback to kickstart the next era of competitive play in Gods Unchained. This tournament will take us back to the early days of the game, with a couple new quirks due to the way GU has developed along the way – like Core Set Refresh & God Powers, commented Gods Unchained game designer Bryn Welch.
“This isn’t the only tournament we have planned, but for the first of a new era, we couldn’t think of anything more fitting than taking it back to where it all began”, he added.
Tournament specs:
- Starts at 10 am EST on 13th September 13
- Ends at 10 pm EST on 15th September
- Registration opens 4th September at 9 am EST, and closes 13th September at 9:59 am EST
