Fortnite has plenty of different game modes with wide Creative options. There are side games that were once the only other way to play though, LTMs in Fortnite. These game modes were a huge part of playing Fortnite in Chapter 1 but have been all but removed more recently. In Chapter 5, Epic’s been experimenting with their return, which has prompted newer players to wonder what is an LTM in Fortnite?
LTMs are a different version of Fortnite. Similar to Creative offering experiences like Gun Games (or XP maps). However, these are produced by Epic. They’ve been returning in a more limited capacity in Chapter 5. Starting with a fresh version of the Floor is Lava back in Chapter 5 Season 2. Now, it looks like we’re getting a Marvel items-only LTM! If you haven’t kept up with all the terminology, this is what it means.
What is an LTM in Fortnite?

LTMs in Fortnite are a different way to play, a fun twist on the standard rule set. Their name is more to do with their timing though. LTM stands for Limited Time Mode. As in the mode is only available for a week or two.
In Chapter 1, we had an ever-rotating series of LTMs on offer. Rather than jumping in and choosing between Battle Royale, Zero Build, Ranked, Lego, and all the modes in Fortnite Creative, it was just Fortnite and whatever LTM was running at that point.
In function, LTMs were similar to Battle Royale. Same map (usually) but often different rules. A more selective set of loot and different mechanics at work to make a bit more fun. You can get a good idea of what an LTM is in Fortnite by looking through the past LTMs and how they changed the game’s rules:
Past LTMs
- 50 V 50 – Bigger teams
- Solid Gold – All loot is Gold
- The Floor is Lava – Lava slowly rises on the map
- Love Shot – The only weapon is a crossbow, great for sky bases.

That’s what LTMs used to be, but they’ve returned in a little way in this Chapter. These days, they’re a bit different. While they still change the loot pool and mechanics, they’re often story-based. These modes have theming around what’s going on in Fortnite lore and feature quests for you to earn rewards too.
