The storm is and has always been a major part of Fortnite, but a recent hotfix made a significant change to it. The storm is what forces players to move inward and to face each other. Without it, gamers could conceivably hide out in a corner of the map endlessly and there would be no complete match. Epic Games turned on storm sickness to alter the storm, and the latest update to Chapter 5 Season 4, while small, made another notable change to the storm.
Fortnite Storm Gets Tweak in Hotfix
Sometimes, the storm is a little annoying. It often forces some players to continuously run from where they looted. Other times, it closes on a less-than-ideal area. If the storm happens to close around water, it makes for a very difficult final circle. According to ShiinaBR, a prominent leaker within the gaming community, Epic Games just put out a hotfix that prevents the storm from ever closing on the desert biome.
The desert biome isn’t as prominent as it has been in some seasons, but it still makes up the southern region of the current map. Fortnite POIs like Redline Rig, Brutal Beachhead, and Sandy Steppes are desert. A couple of them are also not well-liked final circle spots. Epic has made sure that you will never be fighting the last team in the wide-open region to the south of the island ever again. It’s the first time the game has seen such a change to the storm, which has always been highly random.
However, this change does make sense. Some storm circles are downright bad, making the gameplay within them random and disappointing for many. Tweaking the game to avoid this scenario is wise, but it’s unclear if this change to the desert region is the start of something new or just a one-off change to satisfy one small issue. For now, it’s the latter, but time will tell what Epic does to continue making Fortnite a great game.
