The famous auction house Christie’s will accompany the upcoming offer of a collection of photographs by Trevor Traina from NFT ownership certificates minted on the Base blockchain.
Christie’s and the new offering accompanied by NFT minted on Base blockchain
Christie’s will offer a new collection of photographs by Trevor Traina, accompanied by digital ownership certificates minted on blockchain Base.
In practice, the auction for “An Eye Towards the Real: Photographs from the Collection of Ambassador Trevor Traina” will see the issuance of digital certificates for each of the 130 lots.
Trevor Traina, in addition to being the former United States ambassador to Austria, is also the founder of the wallet provider Kresus.
In fact, the new NFT certificates have been minted by Kresus who, for the occasion, seems to have chosen Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, Base.
In this regard, Christie’s and Kresus commented as follows:
“This pilot program marks a significant step forward in the adoption of blockchain technology by the art world, aligning physical works with digital certificates to ensure transparency and security for art collectors.”
Christie’s and its involvement with NFTs: now it’s the turn of the Base blockchain
The sale of “An Eye Towards the Real: Photographs from the Collection of Ambassador Trevor Traina” by the auction house Christie’s, will take place on Wednesday at Rockefeller Center in New York.
With this opportunity, Christie’s is once again experimenting with the use of blockchain for the artworks it offers, and this time it is about Base.
As early as March 2021, the renowned auction house had auctioned the “Everyday” collection by digital artist Beeple, purchased for 69 million dollars.
Immediately after, in May 2021, Christie’s offered the “CryptoPunks” lot, a cult series of NFT characters on the Ethereum blockchain, sold for nearly 17 million dollars.
Also, the work of Hackatao that reproduces the bear head of Leonardo Da Vinci in its NFT version, was offered by the auction house in June 2021.
The interest in NFT Art by Christie’s was so strong that later, in September 2022, its platform was established Christie’s 3.0. Here, the Ethereum blockchain was chosen, which, at that time, had just become Proof-of-Stake.
The novità in casa Coinbase
Recently, Jesse Pollak, creator of Base, announced that he has officially joined the executive team of Coinbase. Not only that, his new role will be to lead the Coinbase Wallet team.
The news seems to have been appreciated by the crypto community. Among others, Jacob Horne, founder of the blockchain for media Zora, highlighted that the combination of Coinbase Wallet and Base could improve the overall UX of the sector.
This promotion for the creator of Base comes after its blockchain continues to achieve record milestones. In fact, at the beginning of the week, the TVL of Base exceeded 2 billion dollars.
