The International 2024 (TI13) is progressing at a rapid pace, and while the event kicked off just a few days ago, we’re already reeling from some significant eliminations.
With at least four teams out of the tournament as of Sep. 10, many fans are left crushed by the aftermath at The International 2024’s Playoff stage as nouns and 1w exit TI13.
Recap on TI13 Playoffs Eliminations
The first round of lower bracket matches concluded with the early elimination of Talon Esports, Team Zero. For the most part, we anticipated these outcomes in favor of their respective opponents.
Nouns fall in TI13
However, it’s a rough day to be a North American Dota 2 fan as the region’s sole representative ends their TI13 run. Nouns had to face yet another formidable opponent after narrowly missing their victory against Gaimin Gladiators in the Upper Bracket.
This time, BetBoom Team, completely overwhelmed nouns with their fast-paced execution and drafts. Nouns did not anticipate BetBoom’s greedy hero line-up to come online so quickly. Yet, their Beastmaster’s great laning phase enabled him to pursue the enemy carries with early ganks across the map. Securing team-wipes as early as the 8-minute mark, they followed up each successful fight with destroying tier-1 towers.
With the diminishing map coverage for farm and resources, it was only a matter of time before BetBoom snuffed out nouns’ late-game potential.
If Game One looked like a beatdown, BetBoom made the second game much worse. Despite being a longer game, it ended with a whopping 50K gold lead in favor of BetBoom. Although the odds were against nouns from the beginning, we were rooting for the NA underdog to deliver a miracle. After all, let’s not forget that nouns sent Team Spirit into the lower bracket during their Seeding Decider game. And they also gave Gaimin, the Riyadh Masters 2024 Champions, a run for their money.
1w Team’s Lower Bracket run concludes
The other team that faced elimination in the second round of Lower Bracket was 1w Team. The Eastern European squad made their first TI debut but still managed to place ninth place at TI13.
Considering they faced Team Falcons, it’s rather justifiable that they couldn’t hold a candle against latter.
Nevertheless, their drafts were textbook copy of the current meta because they knew they needed that if they want to have a shot at Falcons. However, against Falcons, a team that understood the pitfalls of every meta pick, it’s a futile effort.
What’s next for nouns and 1w?
1w and nouns’ journey ends here at TI13, but they can still enjoy the bustling city of Copenhagen, perhaps even join the talent team as analysts.
Jokes aside, the two teams will likely be preparing for the next Dota 2 season or the ESL One Bangkok 2024. That also is the period when post-TI13 roster shuffles occur. However, nouns’ season wasn’t too shabby for what they have accomplished.
They are talented and have the potential to rival even the most formidable Dota 2 opponents, so it would be a shame if they do disband after this. Whereas, 1w Team can also be proud of themselves. For a roster that is only seven months old, they are certainly capable of improving.
