Despite unveiling a new roster just a few days ago, OG’s Dota 2 team are struggling and just found themselves on the losing end of a crucial game in the DreamLeague Season 24 Closed Qualifiers against Ukrainian team Palianytsia and their hilariously named offlaner fortniteMan.
OG faced off against Palianytsia in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals of the DreamLeague Season 24: Western Europe Closed Qualifier. In a hotly contested series, Palianytsia struck first, closing a 62-minute game in convincing fashion. OG took the second game with a quick and dominant display, and fans probably let out a sigh of relief as it looked like OG was firmly in control. But in the final matchup Palianytsia were able to secure victory after a somewhat ‘over-drafted’ line-up by OG failed to handle a killer performance from Shadow Fiend.
After the loss, disgruntled fans headed online to complain about the unfortunate outcome and the fact OG had been defeated by the eponymous Pilipenko “fortniteMan” Mikhail. In a Reddit thread entitled “This team is such a joke” which reached around 400 upvotes and 140 comments at the time of writing, fans criticized the outcome.
“Its impressive how every OG roster is worse than the previous one. you’d think an org that won 2 TIs would be able to attract some decent names, but nope.” criticized one user. “Whisper needs replacing, he’s terribly inconsistent, can’t remember him having good games at all” continued another.
Overall the sentiment about the new OG roster seemed largely negative, while praise and jokes about their opponents, Palianytsia, and their offlaner, fortniteMan, were forthcoming. Palianytsia, a team seemingly named after the Ukrainian baked food product of the same name, will now advance to face NAVI junior in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, putting them just two series away from qualifying for DreamLeague S24.
Palianytsia’s roster consists of former NAVI and PuckChamp carry Vladyslav “Crystallize” Krystanek, Bilous “Moonlight” Volodymyr, fortniteMan, Ivanov “QBFY” Vitali, and support player kreker. The team currently don’t have a Liquidpedia page, but tracking the players’ DotaBuff and other info pages show they’re a group of players who’ve been grinding for some time. They formed Palianytsia to compete in the DreamLeague S24 qualifiers, and made their ways through the Open Qualifiers to this closed group.
For OG this is do or die time. The team will face Dandelions in an elimination match tomorrow. Should they fail, the team will have missed out on qualifying for any major tournaments since April 2024.
