As part of the Base blockchain’s Onchain Summer engagement campaign, the Onchain Arcade has gone live.
Created in partnership with Atari and onchain loyalty outfit Stack, the Onchain Arcade is an initiative to release HTML5 versions of retro games, which are minted as NFTs on the Base blockchain.
Holders can then play the game with their high scores recorded on a leaderboard. Top scores will win various related prizes including Atari 2600+ hardware, merch and game codes.
The first game to be launched is Asteroids, which is now available priced $5, which will be followed by Breakout.
One key element of Onchain Arcade is that some of this revenue will be distributed to the games’ creators in what’s been labelled “the automated distribution of game sales proceeds”.
The initiative in terms of new games and leaderboard prizes will run until 30th August. Obviously, minted games will still be available to play after that date.
