This coming month, we’re going to see the conclusion of the Overwatch Champion Series. The OWCS World Finals are coming up in November. First though, we’ve got our final stage of the main competition with OWCS Stage 4 concluding. This is the final stage before the conclusion of a full year of competitive action.
There’s been a lot of changes to Overwatch esports this year, but these final events will be some of the conclusive events for the year. We’ll see some of the top teams competing, how will the tournament work and what can we expect from stage 4 of the tournament?
OWCS Stage 4
North America
In North America, we’ve seen Toronto dominate over the last few stages. However, there’s space for another team to rise up for Stage 4. There are 155 teams taking part, from September 20 to October 13th.
Things will begin with a nine Swiss round stage, taking place over the first two days. The top 24 teams move on to a single-day top Cut Swiss round. After this, just the top 12 head to the Group Stage. This is going on from September 27th to October 6th.
These groups will eventually narrow down to the final brackets, with the winner moving on to the OWCS World Finals.
So far, we’ve seen a few teams move forward to the last stage. No surprises for guessing Toronto Defiant have come though, so have FLUFFY AIMERS, NTMR, and Citrus Nation.
EMEA OWCS Stage 4
Over in the EMEA region, we’ve had a similar format to follow. There have been quite a few stand-out teams so far, with ENCE moving forward from the first group, Virtus.pro from the second, Spacestation Gaming from the third, and Piece of Cake from the fourth. These teams will face each other in the final bracket, to decide another entrant to the World Finals coming up soon.
Each of these tournaments is going to lock a team into our World Finals. Now part way through, we don’t have to wait until the bracket is locked in. From there, we’ll have a clearer view of which teams are in the running to take the Championship crown for our first year of this new format for Overwatch! Which could prove the only year for OW 5-v-5 with current tests going on.
