Ahead of its phased global launch, Singapore developer 0X& has released more details of its mobile-based monster-taming game Ragnarok: Monster World.
Deploying on Sky Mavis’ Ronin blockchain, the game will be available via mobile app stores, as well as APK for certain regions. In soft launch from 26th September, it’s set for global launch on 1st October 2024.
Running on a seasonal basis, with an initial pre-season followed by a regular season, the game’s inaugural pre-season will run from 26th September to 10th October. After this, the regular season will kick off, running through to 17th November.
In terms of Ragnarok: Monster World’s in-game economy, it will be underpinned by the ZENY token. Obviously none of the features that require ZENY, such as converting Ragmons into onchain assets, as well as breeding them, will be live until after token launch.
For each season, only a limited number of Ragmons can be converted. These will be determined by market demand. Certain Ragmons will also be eligible for staking. These will vary from season to season, and be selected based on their level.
Staked Ragmons will offer players a leaderboard boost in terms of rewards, but they won’t be available for in-game use while being staked.
As for the leaderboard, it’s one and the same for NFT holders and everyone else. The reasoning is that, because Ragnarok Online is such a well-known OG IP, gameplay shouldn’t be restricted for free-to-play web2 players. Instead, NFT holders, and particularly holders of Genesis Tamer NFTs, will be offered perks in the form of a ZENY rewards multiplier.
According to the developer, none of the details unveiled so far are fully cemented. As the team gathers player and community feedback, these are still subject to changes.
Also worth noting is that leaderboard rewards will only be activated during the regular seasons. Until the ZENY token launch, rewards will be distributed in E-ZENY, which can later be exchanged for ZENY.
