The HCS Salt Lake City Major 2024 has its four Semi-Finalists, with Championship Sunday set to get underway. Find out how the four teams made it all the way to the last day in Salt Lake City!
FaZe avenge Atlanta to reach Championship Sunday
Coming into HCS Salt Lake City Major 2024, FaZe Clan were on a mission to avenge a dreadful performance in Atlanta. While some teams dream of a 5th-6th Major finish, for FaZe Clan’s Halo team, that represents abject failure. They’re on the road to redemption, having already secured a stronger finish here than their previous effort. They do find themselves in the Elimination Bracket, after losing a tough 3:1 series to OpTic Gaming.
FaZe Clan had a few stars on the day. Royal2 came up clutch in the final match against Native Gaming, while earlier in the day, Renegade had put in some monstrous performances in the Winner’s Bracket. This is a FaZe roster where anyone can pop off at any time, and we’re seeing that in action at HCS Salt Lake City Major 2024.
Holders Spacestation Gaming still running to retain
HCS Atlanta Major 2024 winners Spacestation Gaming remain in the running to retain their title in Salt Lake City. If they’re to do so, they’ll have done it the hard way, as they fought through the Lower Bracket to make it to Championship Sunday. It was a busy day for the team, taking down Cloud9, Into The Breach, and Complexity en route to the Elimination Bracket Semi-Finals.
It was a very good day at the office for Bound, in particular. He had the most amount of slays against Cloud9 and Into The Breach, and was only beaten by StelluR during the Complexity matchup. As Spacestation Gaming’s Elimination Bracket run continues on Championship Sunday, they’ll need Bound to keep up this kind of form if they’re going to win back-to-back Majors.
Pure bow out early after top-four Atlanta run
After a surprising top-four finish at the HCS Atlanta Major 2024, Pure have been eliminated in 9th-12th place in Salt Lake City. We knew that their run in Atlanta was something of a fairytale, but they’ll still be disappointed they couldn’t give a better account of themselves here.
They were eliminated after two consecutive defeats to Shopify Rebellion and Quadrant, picking up just a single map along the way. Across the two series, a massive performance from LastShot could not prove enough to save Pure at the HCS Salt Lake City Major 2024. Despite this rough finish, their spot at the Halo World Championship 2024 is now secured, so hopefully they can find an organization that can help take their game to the next level.
Heading into Championship Sunday, these are the two matches we’re set to see first:
- Spacestation Gaming vs. FaZe Clan
- OpTic Gaming vs. Shopify Rebellion
