T1 vs Gen.G: Worlds 2024 Semifinals Preview
It’s the biggest rivalry in South Korea and it’s likely the biggest one of the past few seasons: T1 and Gen.G meet again at Worlds 2024 and this time around, a ticket to the Grand Final in London is on the line.
Gen.G came into Worlds 2024 as the tournament favorites and dominated early on before butting heads with the most unexpected rival, FlyQuest. What was supposed to be an easy series turned out to be one of the most stressful series of the season, as Gen.G were on the brink of being eliminated after Game 3. Their resilience, however, brought them alive and now, they will face their arch nemesis to close off the 2024 season.
It might be fate or it might be written in the stars, but T1 is not backing off from a potential second title and three consecutive Worlds finals.
Despite all the downs and barely making it to Worlds as the LCK #4 seed, T1 has stepped up immensely, dominating LPL’s #2 seed TES in the quarterfinals and showcasing one of the most dominant games in recent history, giving no kills to the enemy team.

T1 vs Gen.G Series Breakdown & Expectations
If there is a team that seems to have found a magic formula for themselves, it’s T1 once again. Throughout the series against TES, the Korean team kept suppressing the enemies with a number advantage and ultimately forcing them into mistakes.
The key to such outcomes was none other than Keria, who was often roaming around the map to create pressure points and make sure the team could have laners in advantageous game states, especially before the objective spawned. T1 wouldn’t necessarily force the fights but rather wait for the enemy to make a misstep and capitalize on small leads, which slowly compounded into an unrecoverable gap.
Gen.G, on the other hand, continued to have a more textbook playstyle, similar to HLE. FLY was able to punish that in their quarterfinal match, although Gen.G was still the squad with better players who could pull off their Worlds pick and ban drafts better. A big question mark for this series will be on Gen.G’s approach: will they look to refine their usual playstyle or will they come up with something new? This will be a big point for the entire series.
All players seem to be in good form and the gap is basically non-existent. It’s a 50-50 across the board and it will only swing based on how the players show on the day.

Our Predictions
I would expect T1 to initially go with their comfort and the ball will bounce to Gen.G, who has to come up with a solution or adaptation to counter it. If the latter is unable to crack the code, T1 will likely have a draft advantage.
The main edge Gen.G has over T1 is their ability to play scaling comps. Aside from must-bans like Yone and Aurora, the team has too many comfort champions that shouldn’t be left open, such as Smolder, Skarner, Kai’Sa, Ziggs, Rell, and Nidalee. In other words, some of their comfort meta picks will always end up going through the ban phase. On top of that, Peyz has shown the ability to play several atypical ADCs such as Jinx and Twitch.
Unlike the LPL teams, I would expect Korean teams to play more slowly and composed. The kill count won’t be as high but the game duration should be long in most games of the series. T1 will likely be more aggressive early on so the early in-game odds should be in their favor. The longer the games go, though, the higher Gen.G’s chances of victory will be. Based on the above, I’m expecting a 5-game series, with T1 having a higher chance given their latest form.
