Amazon gives away free NFT

Amazon is working on its own NFT marketplace, and to promote it has decided to give away free NFTs to Prime subscribers.

These are online gaming related NFTs that will be released through the Prime Gaming portal.

Amazon Prime and free NFTs

Amazon Prime is a paid service.

By subscribing for a few euros per month, Amazon customers receive certain benefits, such as the ability to receive their purchased products with fast delivery times or access to certain additional services.

Among the additional services available to subscribers, the most popular is undoubtedly Prime Video, which provides access to a video-on-demand platform of films and TV series. After Netflix, it is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world, along with Disney Plus.

Another popular service is Prime Music, a music streaming platform with over 2 million songs.

Other services available to subscribers include Prime Reading, Prime Pantry, Prime Now, Prime Day and Prime Gaming.

Prime Gaming in particular is none other than the new name for Twitch Prime in 2020.

Twitch is a well-known Amazon portal dedicated to live video feeds, used by many streamers around the world, but especially by gamers. Amazon Prime Gaming will allow Prime users to access this content without having a Twitch account.

On Prime Gaming, subscribers can redeem free video games and various external video game rewards. It also allows for a free paid subscription to Twitch affiliates or partners.

Amazon: free NFT

Amazon Prime subscribers can access Prime Gaming, where they will find a selection of NFTs that they can request for free and use within blockchain-based games.

Typically these are playable characters, outfits or special skins, particularly in the games Mojo Melee, Blankos Block Party, My Pet Hooligan and NFL Rivals.

For Brawlers, formerly known as Blockchain Brawlers, you can request the free Mike Yellerbelly character, as well as eight deck cards and three strategic moves.

As for Mojo Melee, there is a free pack that includes an NFT polygon for platypus champion Veren Mostelier and a free game pack of 885 Hours.

My Pet Hooligan, on the other hand, is a game that will support NFTs in the future, so the Amazon promotion applies to in-game items that are not tokenised.

As for NFL Rivals, it is not really NFT either, but a booster pack of 10 basic player cards.

NFT in gaming

Although the market for artistic NFTs collapsed in 2022, they are becoming increasingly popular in the gaming world.

The advantage is that because NFTs reside on public blockchains outside of the games themselves, they are not only freely exchangeable on any marketplace that supports them, but also potentially usable in different games.

And as non-replicable, non-falsifiable digital objects whose ownership is secure, they are perfect for trading.

At the moment, NFT marketplaces mainly trade artistic NFTs, but the more games that support NFTs, the more potential there is for trading non-fungible game tokens.

The NFT Marketplace

It is no coincidence that Amazon is working on its own NFT marketplace.

It will most likely be dedicated to gaming NFTs, rather than artistic NFTs, as the company has its sights set on online gaming.

It is also no coincidence that Amazon bought Twitch Interactive for USD 970 million in 2014.

The Twitch.tv platform was only launched in 2011, but by 2013 it had become the world’s largest eSports streaming platform. The following year, it joined the Amazon galaxy, and almost ten years have passed since then.

Some time later, Amazon launched Twitch Prime, which was later renamed Amazon Prime Gaming three years ago, and at that point the company’s interest in online gaming became abundantly clear.

At this point, it is more than logical to expect the launch of an Amazon NFT marketplace specifically dedicated to gaming.

However, there are other NFT marketplaces that are already well established, such as OpenSea and Blur, which have been around for several years. They boomed in 2021, although this boom was followed by a speculative bubble that burst during 2022.

However, the current major NFT marketplaces are specifically dedicated to the artistic NFT market, and this actually opens up space for Amazon’s possible marketplace dedicated to games instead.

The e-commerce giant Amazon is ready to launch its NFT marketplace next month, precisely on 24 April.

According to a report by TheBigWhale, Amazon says it is ready to launch its NFT marketplace precisely on 24 April.

The e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming and artificial intelligence giant will also make room for Non-Fungible Tokens.

From what emerges, it appears that initially about fifteen collections will be available on the website through a tab called “Amazon Digital Marketplace.” This tab will initially be available only in the United States. The platform will gradually be opened to the rest of the world, including Europe.

In fact, it appears that the launch of Amazon Digital Marketplace has been postponed twice in recent weeks because of the FTX crypto-exchange failure that shook the entire industry.

At the moment, it appears that the date 24 April has been set, barring any new emergency events. However, it is still unclear if the platform will accept crypto payments or if only credit card payments will be available.

Amazon follows eBay for the sale of NFTs

Amazon’s marketplace was somewhat predicted back in January this year. But the American giant, is not the first to have decided to add NFTs to its ecommerce, or to want to launch a dedicated NFT marketplace.

As early as May 2021, eBay had added NFTs to its marketplace, purchasable via auction much like it happens on more “traditional” crypto art platforms.

However, eBay has not added crypto payments, but only in fiat currency via PayPal and credit card, without special KYC, but only via login to the marketplace.

This is a basic way of selling NFTs, as opposed to the other platforms that have some barriers to entry instead. Not only that, the fact that Ethereum is not used as payment, frees one from the large gas fees of this blockchain.

NFT industry data for February 2023

Amazon leaked its news just as the Non-Fungible Token market seems to have started breathing again, touching $2 billion in trading volumes for the first time since May 2022.

This is a 117% increase over the month of January 2023. The star of this growth is Blur‘s NFT marketplace, which appears to have surpassed the famous OpenSea in terms of trading volume.

And indeed, while Blur touched $1.3 billion, OpenSea remained at $587 million. This is 64.8% of the entire NFT market trading volume for Blur, compared to 28.7% for OpenSea.

Despite this performance, OpenSea still has a much larger user base than Blur. It is nearly 317K traders compared to not even 97K for Blur.

Amazon launches a game in the metaverse

A few days ago, Amazon launched a paid-for 3D online game in which players move through a virtual city helping people solve real-world technology problems and use cases through the cloud. This is Amazon’s first experience in the virtual world of the metaverse.

The new game, according to Bezos’ plans, should give new impetus to its AWS service, which now bills more than just its ecommerce business.

The game is called AWS Cloud Quest: its operation seems rather simple and intuitive. In a nutshell, the game developed by the company’s technology team aims to help people build more cloud-computing skills.

Users navigate a virtual city, helping its inhabitants solve cloud-related IT problems while earning points for completing simulations and puzzles. The clear goal is to increase awareness and therefore adoption of Amazon’s cloud service, which the Seattle-based company has been focusing on for years.

“AWS Cloud Quest and AWS Educate intentionally move away from passive content. We want to make abstract cloud computing concepts real through interactive, hands-on activities that allow students to immediately turn theory into practice”,

said Kevin Kelly, director of professional cloud education programs at AWS in a post on the company blog

“We’re continuing to innovate on how students can develop their practical cloud knowledge and skills by meeting them where they are and bringing knowledge within reach of anyone by making these programs free”.

How to play

Users earn points after completing tests of Amazon Web Services simulations and puzzles, which later unlock new content and character styles like countless video games.

There has long been talk of Amazon adopting cryptocurrencies in its marketplace as well, something that top management has never ruled out. This incursion into the metaverse could be a further step towards greater openness to the world of NFTs and cryptocurrencies, as part of the Web3 ecosystem that is increasingly attracting the curiosity of tech giants.

Amazon Care announces that its virtual health services will be available in 20 new US cities this year, in response to growing demand.

The ecommerce giant’s telemedicine service was launched in 2019 as a pilot programme for employees in and around its Seattle office.

Amazon Care expands in the US

According to reports, the Amazon Care virtual health care service, or also known as telemedicine, is expanding in 2022.

Specifically, more than 20 cities in the US will be added to the existing list. Here are some of the cities, according to the ecommerce giant:

“The service is already available in Seattle, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Arlington. In 2022, we plan to bring in-person care services to more than 20 additional cities—including major metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, and New York City—so customers can access care where and when they need it most”.

The reason for this expansion in an area that, due in part to the global pandemic, is increasingly attractive, is essentially given by the increased demand for virtual healthcare from US citizens.

The pilot project launched in 2019 by Amazon Care therefore now appears to be an answer that would fill a critical gap in the healthcare system, as it combines virtual care with a new approach to in-person care, offering a wider range of care on demand by patients in the comfort of their own homes.

This expansion of the ecommerce giant into the healthcare sector is also forging new partnerships with Care Medical doctors and nurses across the country.

Not only that, thanks to positive reviews from patients, companies like Silicon Labs, TrueBlue and Whole Foods Market are offering Amazon Care to their employees nationwide.

On that note, Kristen Helton, director of Amazon Care said:

“Patients are tired of a health care system that doesn’t put them first. Our patient-centric service is changing that, one visit at a time,” says Kristen Helton, director of Amazon Care. “We’ve brought our on-demand urgent and primary care services to patients nationwide. As we grow the service, we’ll continue to work with our customers to address their needs”.

The ‘Cash or Crypto’ programme of the ecommerce giant

At the end of January, Amazon Marketplace launched Elevate Brands’ ‘Cash or Crypto’ programme, dedicated to all owner-vendors who decide to withdraw from the platform.

Basically, it allows choosing whether to be paid back in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

‘Cash or Crypto’ was created by Elevate Brands in partnership with Coinbase Prime, making it the first aggregator on Amazon to offer BTC and crypto for outbound transactions.
