Immutable adds most games in first half of 2024

Despite a bleak second quarter in terms of game tokens performance and web3 games investments, the number of new blockchain games keeps increasing.

During Q2 2024, 157 new titles were tracked by Big Blockchain Game List, ranging from Mythical Games’ Pudgy Penguins tie-in and Planet Mojo’s GoGo Mojo endless runner, to fully onchain PVP game Cambria: Duel Arena and IP expansion Baby Shark Universe.

Combined with the 119 new titles tracked in Q1, the first half of the year saw 276 new games.

As for which ecosystems most games are deploying on, the quickest growing category contains multichain games, meaning games deploying on more than one blockchain. This group accounted for 18% of all new games in Q2, compared to 27% in Q1.

More broadly, the industry has seen a change in trends compared to 2023. Notably, back then, BNB saw most growth, followed by Polygon – and later these two swapping the top spot in terms of the number of new games added to them.

In 2024 however, Immutable’s new Immutable zkEVM ecosystem is proving to be the top choice, with 16% of the new games added in Q2, and 14% in Q1. In large part this is thanks to its co-operative deal with Polygon.

Immutable is now the most popular gaming blockchain in terms of the amount of publicly announced titles, with 61 games added since the start of 2024, and 25 of those games in Q2 2024.

This trend is likely going to be further cemented during Q3. Immutable regularly states it’s got more than 330 games within its expanding ecosystem, although those have not been officially announced. Most recently, Planetarium’s Immortal Rising 2 has announced it’s deploying to Immutable zkEVM.

Other noticeable changes within ecosystems concerns TON, which saw a 14% decrease of games due to cancelled development or liveops.

However, alongside games dropping off, TON also saw a remarkable growth of new titles added, with 201 games currently listed on its platform. Mainly simple mini-games distributed via Telegram, this category is highly liquid and attracts a huge number of bots. Although it shouldn’t be ignored, the number of these games might not be as significant in comparison to blockchain gaming networks such as Ronin, Immutable, and Arbitrum.

Next after TON, BNB was the blockchain losing most games during the quarter, with a 12% drop. Wemix also experienced a substantial drop off (9%) of games in Q2 2024, however this has been explained to be part of the platform’s new strategic shift towards adding fewer but high-quality games in exchange for high-volume.

WeTransfer has partnered with Minima to use its revolutionary blockchain technology, which protects the privacy of user data, to distribute NFTs. These Non-Fungible Tokens will be able to be created directly by users via smartphones or other devices.

Renowned digital content sharing platform WeTransfer appears to have switched to NFTs in partnership with Minima, a blockchain technology that enables users to manage the digital rights of their intellectual property.

Essentially, with this partnership, users can generate NFTs directly from their smartphones or other devices, having full control over how and with whom they share their digital assets and efficiently collect revenue.

The Minima network is a cutting-edge blockchain technology with a global deployment that will be operational in 180 countries in March. Not only that, Minima aims to protect data privacy and put self-sovereignty at the center of everything.

The latest news on NFTs

Sorare: news on the NBA and related data

Great news for NBA and NFT fans: as announced a few weeks ago, Sorare has made official its partnership with the National Basketball Association and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), and perhaps thanks in part to this new collaboration, the data disclosed by the Soraredata.com platform is growing.

After negotiations of about 1 year, the NBA has granted Sorare to use its logos while the eNBPA has licensed the names, images, and rights of its players to Sorare.

Sorare is currently the only company offering an official NBA game based on NFTs.

What is the NBA

The National Basketball Association, commonly NBA, is North America’s 30-team professional basketball league, as well as the premier league in the United States and Canada, and is the world’s premier men’s professional basketball league.

What is Sorare and what affects the platform’s data

Sorare began in 2018 as a fantasy game created for soccer, in which players buy, sell, trade, and manage a virtual team with digital player cards.

The game uses Ethereum-based blockchain technology and was developed in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort. As of 2 August 2022, more than 280 sports clubs total appear in the game.

On 12 May 2022, Sorare also signed a partnership with Major League Baseball with the launch of the game made in the recent 19 July 2022, with Sorare promising to target not only soccer but most sports.

How does Sorare’s NBA game work

Players must compose their own virtual teams of five NBA basketball players (11 for soccer ones), using blockchain cards on the Sorare platform.

Teams are ranked based on the performance of their players, just like in fantasy soccer.

You can buy, sell and trade players on Sorare, and when the team is formed, you can participate in competitions against all the teams in the world.

What is new is that NBA cards, like football cards, are also collectible and digital NFTs and are divided into common cards, limited cards, rare cards, super rare cards and unique cards.

Sorare NBA also leverages the Ethereum blockchain network to ensure the authenticity of the cards. SorareData is a data website, also available as an app for iOS and Android, that tracks all player scores and card prices to aid the coach in all game strategies.

Sorare Data also allows the coach to compete with a max 125 coaches of similar level: there will be six 1-on-1 or team matches.

Then there are upgrades and rewards on Sorare Data for the best players in all tournaments.

It is also possible to keep track of your game results over the previous weeks and months, something that can be more complicated on the Sorare website.

With Sorare Data, the SO5 results page provides an intuitive and easily searchable dashboard on what was earned and how much was missing to win the weekly reward.
