Nike brings NFT to Fortnite, maybe

A few days ago, Nike officially announced a partnership with Fortnite that would appear to involve NFTs.

However, someone noticed that the logo that appears in the final screenshot of the video is that of .SWOOSH (dotSwoosh), which is the official name of Nike’s virtual creations. Indeed, the tweet was retweeted from dotSwoosh’s official Twitter profile.

.SWOOSH is in charge of issuing and managing Nike’s NFTs, including on their official OpenSea page.

Hence this is a partnership related to digital content.

The announcement tweet said:

On 6.20 the ultimate Sneakerhunt begins.

The launch of the initiative is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 20 June 2023, and it will involve Sneakerhunt.

Sneakerhunt: Nike brings NFTs to Fortnite

Not much is known about the Sneakerhunt initiative yet, but there is speculation that it may be related to the launch of a collection of NFTs on Fortnite.

Fortnite is an online gaming giant, with nearly 243 million active players in the past 30 days, according to Active Player.

Sneakerhunt is supposed to be a sort of “sneaker hunt,” meaning one of Nike’s flagship products, but if it will be held on Fortnite it is most likely to be virtual sneakers.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that .SWOOSH’s NFTs are closed boxes whose contents are unknown, and it is certain that .SWOOSH is directly involved in this initiative.

The name of the sneaker hunt will be Airphoria, as seen in the launch video, and it is assumed it may be an NFT-based game created using Fortnite Creative 2.0, which allows users to create their own virtual island game maps using Fortnite resources.

It is worth noting that a couple of years ago Nike created a game on ROBLOX without NFTs, and Fortnite Creative 2.0 has a similar map-creation game similar to creating games on ROBLOX.

Nike’s NFTs in the virtual world

About 20 days ago EA Sports posted a tweet on its official profile that specifically mentioned .SWOOSH, and linked to a page on Nike’s official website.

This page announced the news that Nike Virtual Studios would be bringing .SWOOSH’s virtual creations into EA Sports experiences.

EA Sports has nothing to do with Fortnite, which is from Epic Games, but it is one of the world’s largest producers of digital games.

This shows that Nike is still very active in the NFT field, through its .SWOOSH division.

So it seems that the big sportswear company is also trying to get into the business of digital items on online games, which is where NFTs can give their best.

The technology of non-fungible tokens is perfect for digital collectibles, and such items are often featured in online game marketplaces.

All indications are that Airphoria will be the occasion by which Nike’s digital collectibles will land on Fortnite.

The NFT market

The NFT market as a whole is in a steep downturn.

Taking OpenSea data as a reference, trading volume in May stood at $183 million, down from an all-time monthly high of $4,870 million in January 2022.

What’s more, in the first 20 or so scarce days of June, the volume was less than 90 million, thus in line with that of May. For example, in December 2022, when the lowest point of the last crypto bear-market was reached, they were 285 million, which is well above the current level.

It is worth mentioning that the volume trend on NFT marketplaces often follows that of the crypto markets with a few months gap. Therefore, it is possible that June 2023 may be the lowest point of the last bear-market for the NFT marketplace.

The Fortnite Metaverse welcomes a tokenized real estate investment company to the Fortnite Creative section: Rentaal.

The Spanish fintech startup has created its new virtual island to offer different experiences to its followers.

A new entry in the Fortnite metaverse has arrived: the Spanish tokenized real estate investment startup Reental.

Thanks to a partnership with StadioPlus, Reental has reached out to the video game world and then purchased its virtual island on Fortnite so it can also offer its followers new immersive experiences.

For those not yet familiar with it, Reental describes itself as the European leader in tokenized properties and the global leader of Spanish-speaking investors in this sector.

Not only that, with a community of more than 8,000 users from more than 55 countries, the Spanish fintech offers investment opportunities in different types of properties, with expected returns of more than 10% year-on-year and 24/7 liquidity.

Its entry into the Fortnite metaverse came with the creation of Inmopark, the virtual island where fans and potential customers can enjoy a different, revolutionary, gamified experience.

Metaverse: Fortnite and Reental harness the potential of virtual worlds

Spanish startup Reental appears to be tapping into the potential of the emerging metaverse market, choosing Fortnite, which has more than 25 million daily active users.

Overall, however, a Bloomberg report stated that the metaverse was worth about $63 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2029.

In this regard, Eric Sanchez, CEO of Reental said:

“Immersive technologies and virtual worlds are here to stay, becoming catalysts and new channels for the most innovative brands that, like Reental, are betting on new fan engagement models. With this island, our goal is to take the experience of our followers to a new level of contact with the brand.”

Reental’s new virtual space will remain open for 30 days through code 9633-6019-8917 for all fans of the world-renowned title developed by Epic Games, which offers anyone a wide range of tools to design games and experiences.

Metaverse tokens seem to be making a comeback: the case of OVR

Taking a look at tokens in the metaverse category, there appears to be a resurgence of interest from investors, especially for OVER (OVR).

OVR has pumped 126% in the past seven days, touching $0.65 at the time of writing.

As explained above, one of the factors supporting this strong interest in OVR and the metaverse category could be related to news of Apple, which is on the verge of launching its long-awaited VR/AR visor.

In any case, Over the Reality is a metaverse built on the Ethereum and Polygon blockchains, and its OVR utility token is used to power all transactions on the OVER platform, such as buying and selling digital assets, accessing exclusive content, and participating in events in the virtual world.

The beauty products section of the famous Italian luxury fashion house, Armani Beauty, is diving into the metaverse, launching a new game on Fortnite, called “Rewrite the Code.”

According to reports, Rewrite the Code is inspired by the brand’s new men’s fragrance, Armani Code Parfum.

And indeed, Véronique Gautier, Global President of Armani Beauty, at L’Oréal said:

“Gaming is a new, very natural world to express the new Armani Code fragrance’s modern masculinity. Fortnite is a perfect cultural match with our Armani Code [male] audiences — young, urban, modern — and [gives] the opportunity to tap into the Gen Z gamers, who spend three-times more time on Fortnite than on TikTok.”

The game launched on 26 September and is supported by livestreams with players on YouTube, TikTok and Twitch in the US, UK, France, Spain and Germany.

Rewrite the Code: how Armani’s new game works in the Fortnite metaverse

Gautier also described how Armani’s new Rewrite the Code game on Fortnite works, saying that players have the power to put the world back in order by “rewriting the code.”

Basically, players collect code numbers to unlock them, and each speed run is a mini-game that features a different environment, featuring an olfactory ingredient found in the Armani Code scent, such as iris, cedarwood, and sage.

In this regard, Gautier said:

“The concept of the game inside Fortnite Creative is a natural extension of the Armani Code communication platform. Gamers are invited to ‘rewrite the code,’” said Gautier. “The codes of a new, forward-facing future, the codes of modern men and women in progress. Imagine a world where everything goes wrong, goes in reverse. What if you have the power to put the world back in order, to rewrite the codes? Players are taken on exciting speed runs through a backward urban world before using the Armani Code fragrance to unlock a forward-facing future.”

The protagonist of the Armani Code campaign unveiled this September is British actor Regé-Jean Page, who advances by walking and running through the streets in a world where people walk backwards and clock hands turn counterclockwise.

In the campaign, Page will only stop when he encounters a woman whom he looks at intensely, and at that very moment the bottle of Armani Code pops out as if to indicate that from now on, the world is back on the right track.

Fortnite and the pixel-flavored Coke Zero Sugar Byte

Fortnite, the online video game developed by Epic Games, has welcomed to its Fortnite Creative section not only Armani Beauty with its Armani Code Parfum-inspired game, but also Coca-Cola’s dedicated product.

Indeed, back in April, the global beverage giant announced the launch of its new pixel-flavored Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte on Pixel Point Island in Fortnite.

In that case, the game, instead of inviting players to rewrite the code as with Armani Beauty’s Rewrite the Code, invited them to participate in mini-games of treasure hunts and other activities.
