Blockchain game developers are coming up with new ways of giving away tokens while also incentivizing players not to immediately sell them off. This is evident both in the case of Pirate Nation’s PIRATE and Mocaverse’s MOCA tokens and their respective staking options.

As for the latest example, Boomland has worked out an innovative method to reward players of Hunters On-Chain’s current play-to-airdrop campaign.

Crucially, its BOOM token isn’t yet live on the Immutable zkEVM blockchain, which the game is operating on, which means Boomland can’t give away any BOOM right now.

To solve this issue, Boomland will instead give away BOOM tokens in the form of bundled ERC1155 NFTs.

Called BOOM Bags, these will be demarcated in units of 1,000 to 100,000 BOOM tokens. Current Season 1 bags will have a redemption date of month 0 or month 1. Month 0 refers to the token generation event for BOOM on Immutable zkEVM, sometime later in 2024.

Season 2 bags will either have month 1 or month 2 redemption date. 

These NFTs will, however, be immediately tradeable, like any other NFT in Hunters On-Chain.

This means players can sell their tokens but because they can only be sold as discrete NFTs – and time dependent ones at that – price discovery will likely be more nuanced.

In addition, any BOOM Bag NFT can also be immediately burnt for offchain BOOM tokens that are used to level up in-game hunter characters.

Given the game has its forthcoming Season 2 play-to-airdrop campaign due soon, this will drive demand for offchain BOOM for players who want to maximize their position in Season 2, and hence their next future allocation of BOOM.

And neatly, this approach should restrict the selling of BOOM NFTs, while also providing a strong in-game utility for the token, which is exactly what game developers want to see when they launch a token.

Boomland’s Hunters On-Chain has launched its BOOM token airdrop campaign.

The month long play-to-airdrop event will see 250 million BOOM tokens distributed alongside Hunters On-Chain going live on Immutable zkEVM.

More precisely, the game is now live on Immutable zkEVM – available via browser or Google Play (iOS only via Testflight) – but the existing NFTs and tokens currently on the Polygon blockchain will be migrated later in the summer.

As for this airdrop, players have to log into the game using (or creating) an Immutable Passport, and then play the game to collect badges and gain XP. This increases a player’s standing on the leaderboard.

There’s also a faction system in which players can join up with collaborating games including Pixelmon, Blast Royale, Infinigods, WildCard, and others, to gain a 10% multiplier. The factions themselves also get placed on their own rewards leaderboard for a share of 10 million BOOM.

One of the advantages of the long gestation of Hunters On-Chain up-to-this-point is that the game – which is a web3 version of mobile web2 title Hunt Royale – is now a very polished experience, including daily quests and missions.

Being available to download from Google Play or browser, players use their email to log in, or they can use Immutable’s Passport sign-in.

New players are given a free NFT hunter on a trial basis. Obviously this is a vey lowly ranked asset but if they play for 14 days within a period of 30 days, the trial hunter is converted to a real onchain asset.

Even playing with the trial version, you can immediately earn small amounts of the utility BGEM token, which can be used to purchase chests and gain other in-game assets such as shards and artifacts. In addition to BGEM, the main BOOM token is used to level up hunters.

The airdrop is only the first element in building utility in the Boomland ecosystem, however. The company has already announced that games such as Archery Club and Car Driving School are also being rolled into the process.

Following the announcement of its move from Polygon to Immutable, Boomland has been busy building momentum ahead of its BOOM token launch on the blockchain during Q3 2024.

In order to create token utility, the game developer announced its forthcoming 250 million BOOM play-to-airdrop campaign in May. Underlining its active measures against bots, the team has also made clear that tokens can primarily be earned through accumulating XP in Hunters On-Chain by playing the game, as opposed to social quests widely adopted by other developers.

This could prove to be in Boomland’s favour, and is a testimony of its experience as a game developer, active before token speculation and social media farming was on the agenda. To this end, Hunters On-Chain is Boomland’s web3 version, available across both browser and mobile, of original web2 mobile game Hunt Royale.

To build more utility around BOOM, Boomland has also recently announced not one but two new titles as part of its ecosystem.

Already available as a web2 mobile game, Archery Club is the team’s multiplayer archery game which will implement web3 features through a “soft tokenisation” process. This means current web2 players will gradually be introduced to elements such as token integration and wallet creation using the BGEM utility token.

And now the team has unveiled news that its web2 mobile game Car Driving School will adopt the same approach with a gradual implementation of blockchain. The launch is planned for Q3 2024.

Like Boomland’s action RPG Hunters On-Chain, both Archery Club and Car Driving School will deploy on Immutable zkEVM.

Six months after Immutable launching its Passport onboarding solution, it’s hit over 1 million sign-ups. Indeed, real-time block explorer data shows it’s closing in on 1.4 million cummulative users, as the company reaps the fruit of the recent Guild of Guardians launch and game developer Boomland joining its ecosystem. 

At a closer look, it seems Boomland’s flagship web3 game Hunters On-Chain is the primary driver behind the rapid increase of 400,000 new account sign-ups reported in the past month, compared to the previous five months it took to reach the initial 600,000 accounts.

Since the start of its migration from Polygon to Immutable zkEVM, Hunters On-Chain has attracted significant traffic, currently sitting at 120,000 daily active users. 

One likely reason for the increased activity is Boomland’s current pre-launch preparations and onboarding activities for Hunters On-Chain ahead of its 250 million BOOM play-to-airdrop event.

Meanwhile, on-chain data shows Immutable’s mobile RPG Guild of Guardians, which launched on 15th May, is experiencing a slower pick up.

Looking at the graph, the influx of new sign-ups mainly happened on the 11-12th May, with no significant uptick from the 15th. But this could change as players progress to more advanced stages, as Guild of Guardians is free-to-play and players don’t need to register to get access. However to unlock later modes such as endless battles, an Immutable Passport account is required.

To some extent, Immutable’s recently launched rewards program The Main Quest would also account for some of the recent uptick.

Designed to encourage players to get involved in Guild of Guardians and other releases on Immutable zkEVM, The Main Quest allows users signing up to claim daily gems. Notably, Hunters On-Chain is included in the first wave of games to be featured in The Main Quest.

There will be two seasons for this campaign, each a month long. Season one begins in June.

And Boomland plans to make this a play-focused airdrop event. Users can earn points for completing Badges, finishing Quests, and Referring new players. Badges are in-game, one-time achievements for things such as owning specific hunters or doing a certain amount of damage to Kevin the Dragon. Quests are daily game tasks. And referrals, well, you know what referrals are. But aside from that, no other social engagement required. No Discord events or re-tweeting or any of that sort of stuff that often comes with these campaigns.

This first play to airdrop event will start everyone on equal footing. No existing Hunter NFTs may be used. The game is open to everyone at no cost. All players begin with just a single, common, free Hunter, and must use that to earn points until they can acquire a premium Hunter.

How to acquire a premium Hunter, you ask? Option One: Hold Genesis Hunters in your wallet by the time of the snapshot on May 27th, 3pm UTC. Players will receive one Premium Hunter for every Genesis Hunter they hold. Option 2: Participate and win in various contests and giveaways throughout the play to airdrop campaign. Option 3: Trade or Purchase one on the open market.

What is Hunters On-Chain

Hunters is a fantasy, top-down, casual, PVE action game with a couple of different game modes.

For PvE, each match features four players fighting monsters and leveling up. In Hunt mode, matches last for two minutes, with the top spot going to whoever has earned the most experience in that time, or whoever is the last survivor — whichever comes first. Each player starts the match at level 1 with full hit points. As they kill monsters and grab the stars that drop, players gain experience. Gain enough experience, and you level up, earning the right to choose between two, semi-random promotions. These promotions include standard power-ups such as increased damage, greater attack range, and more hit points, as well as special abilities like Damage Reflect and Demon Pact (sacrifice HP for more damage).

As the match goes on, the monsters get tougher. So players need to be active, get out on the battlefield, and increase their levels. At the center of the map lies a healing square that can be visited at any time.

Other game modes include Boss Hunt, which requires players to try and defeat a Boss dragon after leveling up, and Bounty Hunter, which is a 10 character, FFA fight with no level-ups during the match.

Players earn BGEM tokens from playing matches. They can then use BGEM to purchase chests containing random artifacts and hunter shards or swap them for BOOM tokens. Players need BOOM tokens and Hunter Shards to level up their Hunters.

Hunters On-Chain can be played through a webpage, or with the official app on Android and iOS devices.
