Big news from the world of soccer and crypto with the Italian champion team, AC Milan, signing a partnership with MonkeyLeague, the AAA game developed on the Solana blockchain. Moreover, Liverpool FC also announced that it has expanded its partnership with Sorare’s fantasy game.

The game developed on Solana’s blockchain has entered into a partnership with Milan and involves the creation of exclusive Milan-branded NFT game assets, as well as wearables, special game tournaments, co-marketing events, and a number of other interesting initiatives, such as playtesting of the game by the club’s players.

At the moment, details of the deal have not been revealed. 

Certainly, for AC Milan, this is not the first collaboration involving the launch of its NFT. And in fact, back in April, the Italian champion participated in a charity NFT launch with BitMEX, its sponsor. 

The official NFT was a limited-edition 3D artwork of a special red and black jersey from South Sudan’s 2016/17 season. Proceeds from the sale were used by the Milan Foundation to also support efforts for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. 

Liverpool FC makes Sorare official global partner of the Reds

England’s Liverpool FC team is also turning to blockchain, and it is doing so by expanding its existing partnership with Sorare, the player-owned fantasy sports game.

Indeed, Sorare has become an official global partner of the Reds after signing the latest agreement that will see the creation of multimedia content for fans and the release of unique new experiences for Liverpool FC fans and Sorare managers.

Commenting on this, Ben Latty, commercial director of Liverpool FC, said:

“At Liverpool Football Club, we’re always striving to pioneer new technologies for our supporters, with the aim of enhancing their fan experience and making them feel as connected as possible to this club. We’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Sorare and go further in bringing exciting new initiatives to our fans.”

Sorare: from soccer to basketball

Sorare, the blockchain company founded in 2018 in France, is an NFT fantasy game that is conquering other sports besides soccer, which indeed features the likes of Liverpool FC. 

Earlier this very month, Sorare announced that it is also opening its doors to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) through a multi-year partnership. 

In this way, Sorare’s game will also allow basketball fans to access the fantasy game experience and create a lineup of NFT-based trading cards representing fans’ favorite players and teams. 

Not only that, Sorare allows users to play and earn points based on the actual performance of NBA players.

The famous Italian football club AC Milan has officially announced the launch of its new NFTs. 

The project is a collaboration with Fansea and BitMEX and the proceeds of the sale will go to Milan Foundation to support its charitable initiatives, including efforts to help alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The official NFT that will be put on the market is a limited edition 3D artwork of a special Rossoneri jersey from South Sudan.

This 2016/17 season jersey was discovered by Danish war photographer Jan Grarup during a trip to South Sudan, where he was documenting the effects of severe flooding in the country. It was later donated to the club, who displayed it inside the Mondo Milan museum at Casa Milan, the team’s headquarters in Milan. 

The NFT, made in 3D for Fansea, will be sold at a price of €45. A total of 75,817 will be issued, a number equal to the capacity of the famous San Siro stadium in Milan, where the team plays. 

Sales will begin on 29 April at acmilan.fansea.io. 

Milan NFTs with BitMex

The other partner in the initiative, crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX, has pledged to contribute to the project with a donation to Milan Foundation through the purchase of a large number of these NFTs. 

Still on BitMEX.com, the first 10,000 users who book NFTs on Acmilan.fansea.io will also receive additional benefits through which they can obtain discounts on transaction costs. 

AC Milan promises that this will only be the first of a series of similar initiatives, as the club would like to bring about positive changes through the strength of its brand. 

The aim is to create a bridge between the present and the past, and to promote the healthy values of sport, in line with the club’s RespAct Manifesto.

Milan’s Chief Revenue Officer Casper Stylsvig, said: 

“This is a special moment for the Club as it embarks on a journey into new territory in the name of charity. It is in AC Milan’s nature to explore new and innovative ways to connect with its international fanbase of over 500 million people, while spreading the positive values of sport. So we are proud to be able to combine these two different aspects of our Club into one single project.“

Fansea CEO and founder Alexander Schlicher, added: 

“As part of this special charity project in collaboration with one of the world’s most iconic clubs, we share a passion for sport and want to take our share of responsibility for helping disadvantaged people and children. With this first non-profit NFT, AC Milan is breaking new ground, and in the future will be supported by BitMEX and Fansea.”

Franco Baresi, Honorary Vice-President of AC Milan, has launched his NFT Values collection, inspired by the values that have distinguished him as a sportsman and as a man. 

The NFT collection is entitled Values and consists of seven works, created by underground digital artist Panenous.

The press release states that the launch of the collection will take place in “an innovative way” with the aim of providing an immersive experience for the enjoyment of these new NFTs.

This is intended to allow the user to navigate the collection and interact with it, before making a purchase of the NFTs. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Milan Foundation.

In fact, this non-fungible token project intends to promote fundamental values such as loyalty, love and courage, but also to have a concrete social impact at a global level. 

Therefore, part of the proceeds from the sale of the NFTs will be donated to finance the Milan Foundation’s From Milan to the world initiative, to which Baresi has been personally linked for many years.

Sports and NFTs: a strong link

This is certainly not the first time that the sport and NFT worlds have come together.

Indeed, the Italian football club AC Milan itself has been working for almost a year with the French company Sorare, which has created a project to bring fantasy football to the Ethereum blockchain.

Milan is also a partner in several crypto projects such as the BitMEX exchange and ROInvesting.

In the world of sports, there are many realities that are combined with NFTs, such as NBA Top Shot or Formula 1 and MotoGP, which has become part of the Animoca Brands metaverse with a series of video games.

Football teams, as well as Sorare, have also entered the crypto world thanks to Binance, which now sponsors Lazio in Italy, or thanks to Socios and Chilliz who create fan tokens for different teams to allow fans to vote for various decisions related to their favourite teams.
