For the second year running, The Nemesis and Lucca Comics & Games are launching Luccaverse: the metaverse of the Web3 event, full of new challenges. 

The Nemesis and Lucca Comics & Games to promote Web3 in the metaverse

For the second year in a row, The Nemesis is partnering with Lucca Comics & Games, the biggest annual festival of comics, animation, games and video games in Lucca.

In fact, the main focus of this year’s Lucca Comics & Games is the dissemination and in-depth study of emerging technologies such as the metaverse, NFT, blockchain, web3, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, generative art and much more.

For this occasion, “Communityverse” has been created, an experimental cultural section located on the border between the physical and digital worlds, entirely dedicated to new technologies and contemporary languages. 

It will be five days of intelligent dissemination in which guests and experts will lead the public on a discovery tour of the near future.

In addition, a key element of the partnership is the creation of “Luccaverse”, the metaverse created and launched in 2022, which will also be relaunched for the 2023 edition.

In addition to digital rewards such as special avatar skins and other platform rewards, some games will also offer real-world prizes (such as official Lucca Comics & Games merchandise) that can be picked up directly during the Festival.

Key players in the Metaverse: The Nemesis and Sandbox

As anticipated, Metaversed’s ranking of the Web3 Metaverse sees The Nemesis and Sandbox at the top of the virtual worlds. 

Specifically, the Web3 Metaverse Index report is a comprehensive classification of blockchain-based virtual worlds, with attached information explaining the variables used to evaluate each platform. 

For July 2023, The Nemesis and Sandbox rank first. Both of these companies are successfully bringing real-world brands to their platforms, stimulating the expansion of monthly active users (MAUs). 

In addition, The Nemesis recently partnered with Skoda, while Sandbox implemented an activation for BMW Motorrad. In third place are Blankos and Portals. 

In the lower part of the ranking of the top 20 companies in the Web3 metaverse, we see two new entrants taking seventh place along with three other existing companies. 

Specifically, the newcomers for July 2023 are Numi Club and Ultra. Numi Club focuses on user-generated content creation, while Ultra acts as a hub for games.

Currently, 123 different Web3 virtual worlds are tracked within the Metaverse Index. 

The Sandbox (SAND) breaks critical resistance and gains momentum 

After a lackluster start to July, based on the latest analysis, we see that the price of The Sandbox (SAND) finally broke through $0.40 critical resistance this week. 

Despite diminished global interest in the Metaverse and GameFi sectors over the past year, The Sandbox, the most promising Metaverse project, has attracted renewed investor interest

Moreover, this summer, The Sandbox ecosystem saw a significant increase in new participants. 

In fact, according to Santiment data, the number of new SAND portfolio addresses increased by 130%, from 326 to 746 new addresses between June and mid-July. 

This network growth indicates an increase in user acquisition in The Sandbox ecosystem. Often, an increase in network growth can put upward pressure on the price of the native token. 

In fact, the price of SAND has already increased by 10% between June and July, following the 130% increase in network growth. Finally, with The Sandbox set to host a series of community events in Paris next week, SAND holders can anticipate further gains in the near future.

Requested inclusion of the metaverse in UK’s online security bill

During a UK parliamentary session on 12 July, members of the House of Lords discussed whether the Online Safety Bill should include “malicious content that users may encounter on services, such as in the metaverse.” 

Specifically, lawmakers examined issues related to protecting children from harmful elements online.

Some members highlighted the need to address the gap between provider-generated and user-generated content in the metaverse, which could result in inappropriate content without any specific regulation.

The central topic of discussion was whether the regulation of the UK Online Safety Act should apply to anything communicated through an Internet service, including virtual content and avatars.

The debate on the UK Online Safety Act will resume on 17 July in the House of Lords, where the final reading will take place and the bill will be voted on before any changes can be made to the text.

Lars Schlichting, author of the 2021 Urania Award-winning science fiction novel “Spirit of Napa Tei,” announced that he has chosen The Nemesis metaverse to bring the book’s storyline to life in the virtual world. 

The Nemesis: the adventures of the novel “Spirit of Napa Tei” in the metaverse

It is called “Spirit of Napa Tei,” the novel by Lars Schlichting chosen by Urania, Mondadori Group’s historic science fiction series, as the 2021 winner and which will be released on 5 July on Italian newsstands and in two Swiss bookstores.

And precisely because it is science fiction, the author decided to involve the famous metaverse of The Nemesis to test the literary work in Web3, through gamification. 

The plot of the book describes the novel as a journey through the Milky Way, where Will and his companions are swept up in a succession of events, experiencing real adventures. 

Among other things, there are encounters with advanced alien forms, interplanetary conspiracies, space battles, ritual duels, interracial relationships, trial of aliens, and much more.

And it will be precisely the adventures of Will and his companions as part of the gamification that can be relived in The Nemesis metaverse. 

The Nemesis: the metaverse where the pages of a book come to life

Lars Schlichting wanted to share his own comments on his LinkedIn profile to describe how in 2023 he is making arrangements to bring his work to Web3. 

And in fact, as if it were an adventure of Will and his companions, the protagonists of his novel, Schlichting spoke both about the metaverse with The Nemesis, but also about the world of NFTs, with Noku AG

For its part, The Nemesis is testing how it can realize a publisher’s dream through its metaverse. 

The newly launched NEMS token

Recently, The Nemesis launched its long-awaited new NEMS token, the price of which rose in its first 24 hours from $0.20 to $2.27, marking a +2170% increase. 

It is a new payment token of the ERC-20 standard, namely based on Ethereum, with the aim of introducing new possibilities for NFT users and holders. 

Basically, these people will be able to buy NEMS on the exchanges where it is listed and use it to buy items on the upcoming Marketplace or to trade COINS, the in-game currency. 

At the time of writing, NEMS has experienced a +15% price pump in the past 24 hours, returning to $0.14

Indeed, after the initial bullish move after the launch, as is the case with most new tokens, NEMS has since seen the price decline, going below $0.20 (launch price) over the weekend.

The Nemesis metaverse and Rai Cinema add a new chapter to their successful collaboration with a multi-platform project dedicated to the Divine Comedy and specifically created for Dantedì, the Italian National Day in honor of Dante Alighieri, which is celebrated on March 25th.

On the same day the VR version of the two chapters will be presented for the first time and will involve various viewing facilities throughout Italy, located between Florence, Milan and Turin. The short films will be screened in the VR cinemas created in collaboration with Rai Cinema, that is at the Dante’s House Museum in Florence, the National Cinema Museum in Turin and the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. Finally, from March 27th, the shorts will be available on Rai Cinema Channel VR app, and from March 28th, will also be shown at the Mondo Digitale Foundation, in the outskirts of Rome.

The Nemesis and Rai Cinema, which announced their partnership last May during the Cannes Film Festival, have consolidated their successful relationship with a new project that will be launched on December 15th. During a keynote lecture at La Sapienza University of Rome, the Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores will present the transmedia reboot of the 1997 movie Nirvana.

“NirvanaVerse” has been created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the science- fiction eponymous movie with the aim to celebrate its story and characters through an immersive experience that can be lived both in real time in the Metaverse, on social media, through a podcast and as an Alternate Reality Game.

From December 15th, old and new characters will interact in real time with viewers, the director and the author inside the virtual space of Rai Cinema, that is the custom metaverse created by The Nemesis.

In the Nemesis this space is completely dedicated to cinema in the metaverse and, therefore, has been enriched with new and innovative contents.

In fact, from December 16th users will be able to rewatch the director’s keynote lecture in the virtual cinema room of Rai Cinema Metaverse, access interactive corners to learn more about the Nirvana reboot and test themselves with a quiz about the movie to win a custom skin inspired by its cyberpunk features.

During the first day of the Zebu Live event being held in London, a panel titled “The best way to architect a metaverse” (aka the best way to build a metaverse) was held on the Alpha stage in the presence of companies such as The Nemesis, Cudos, Augmento and Ethereum Towers.

Notably, the panel featured CEO and founder of The Nemesis, Alessandro de Grandi, Augmento founder Wesley Pabis, Brandon Smith, co-founder of Ethereum Towers, and Pete Hill, VP of Cudos.

The Nemesis

The Nemesis is an app for mobile (iOS and Android) and also usable from the web on desktop, which is really easy to use.

As a “blockchain-agnostic” project, Alexander explains, it supports Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon, but actually to use the Nemesis metaverse one does not need to interact with cryptocurrencies, blockchains, or NFTs. Those who want to enter the metaverse, in fact, do not even have to have a wallet at all, but simply use it as an aggregation and gaming platform.

This, de Grandi explained on stage at Zebu Live, is a choice that was made by the Nemesis team in order to bring more and more people to quickly and easily switch from Web2 to Web3 and thus have a larger user base that can use the app.

Augmento

Founded in 2020 in Amsterdam, Augmento.com is a company that designs and decorates the metaverse by collaborating with brands that want to open their shops in virtual worlds, for example. Their job is to interpret real-world objects and transport them into the metaverse for example through augmented reality so that the experience is immersive and user engagement is increased.

Ethereum Towers

Brandon Smith explains that Ethereum Towers is a metaverse created for an audience of non-gamers who want to consume products in a different way. This translates into a kind of social platform that currently consists of 4,388 virtual apartments built on two towers where users can interact.

Cudos

This is a layer 1 blockchain that provides access to scalable computers around the world to have fast transactions with low fees. 

As Hill defines it, it is an “Airbnb of crowd computers,” which metaverses need in order to have functioning platforms where lots of users interact and exchange microtransactions.

Metaverse: what is the real definition?

So after a brief introduction of the panelists and their companies, the heart of the discussion begins to try to first understand what a metaverse is and try to agree on a single definition.

The problem also pointed out some time ago by Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox brand and CEO of Microsoft‘s gaming department, and Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, is that gamers might be confused by the concept of a metaverse because there is no real clear definition of what it is.

So that’s perhaps why the panelists took turns trying to answer this question, and what emerged was that the metaverse could be defined as a virtual world that interacts with the real world through technologies such as AR, NFT, and oculus so that you have an experience in the real world as well. 

Companies such as Augmento.com, for example, are focused on the world of augmented reality, which is seen as the bridge to get more people into the metaverse.

Going further, Brandon Smith explains that the metaverse is thus a new type of platforms that allow content to be consumed in a different way and also a way by which users themselves can create content and experiences.

The metaverse is not just Web 3

As Alessandro de Grandi explains, the big hype around the metaverse sector started with Facebook’s announcement of Meta, a project not related to crypto or blockchain, and in fact the current state of the art is that the ecosystem is not directly related to the world of NFTs. The mass market mostly uses social networks, so the effort of companies is to move users from the social world to the metaverse and then find ways to unite Web 2 with Web 3.

To accomplish this, De Grandi explains, there is still a lot of work to be done because for now there is no ready ecosystem and many users are still afraid or unfamiliar with the crypto world:

“Before moving to play to earn, we have to do earn to play to provide education and we have to teach people step by step how to use these platforms.”

The lack of interoperability between metaverses

In addition to the problem of educating the masses in the use of cryptocurrencies and also finding ways to make the platforms more and more user-friendly, Hill explains that there is also the need for interoperability between metaverses and between different blockchains, which he is trying to do with Cudos.

The other issue is also the graphical quality and high expectations coming from the state of the art in video games. The metaverse, on the other hand, has not yet reached high graphical levels.

Wesley argues: 

“We have to try to get to reality, not to the graphical level of Sandbox.”

In short, there is still a long way to go for the metaverse, but it is certainly a technology that is here to stay.

This collaboration, which represents the perfect marriage between cinema and metaverse, comes after The Nemesis had also announced earlier this month its partnership with ConsenSys, Lega Serie A and TIM to host Italian Serie A football. 

For that occasion, the first Milan-Fiorentina match was streamed in The Nemesis metaverse, with NFT-based access tickets. 

The target audience was the MENA region (users in the Middle East and North Africa) who were able to watch the match from their desktop browsers and mobile phones via The Nemesis iOS and Android app, once they had purchased their NFT ticket. 

The Cryptonomist has been collaborating with The Nemesis metaverse for over a year, and the Poseidon Group recently invested in the metaverse.
