Two months after releasing its meta-changing chapter 2 update, social RPG Pixels has announced its PIXEL token will be listed on crypto exchange OKX. 

In conjunction with the listing, the team has also launched a time-limited quest giving players a chance to get an OKX-themed hat and win one of five OKX-themed pixel pets.

More generally, Pixels has steadily picked up momentum in terms of daily active accounts following the 69% drop it experienced due to clearing out bot activity as part of its latest major update in June. Currently, it has 712,672 DAA, with total lifetime wallets on Ronin exceeding 6 million.

This accounts for 23% of the now almost 26 million total lifetime wallets on the Ronin network.

As of late, the game has also been successful in its aim to build self-sustaining ecosystem loops. Earlier in July it ran a profit-generating Guild Wars event. While 485,000 PIXEL were rewarded, 524,390 PIXEL were burned/locked, and 3.4 billion in-game tokens were burned. 

Moreover, a recent community event reached 70,000 concurrent real in-game players.

In terms of future plans, the team is continuing to rework the game’s rewards structure, which remains focused on reducing bot activity. It will change taskboard tasks and introduce taskboard segmentation, which will tailor PIXEL rewards based on player behaviour as a measure to tackle bots. Additionally, it’s looking to introduce a wallet data reader that can analyze metrics like player history across multiple games and asset ownership to make it harder for bots to operate.

Following the major release of Chapter 2, social RPG Pixels has rolled out Guild Crop Wars, a guild and sabotage-based event entailing $85,000 in PIXEL rewards. 

Prior to its Chapter 2 update, the developer had announced the game’s new emphasis on guilds. Now for the first time, an event in Pixels will feature teamwork-style gameplay combined with sabotage, challenging participants to strategize and collaborate within their guilds to win. Aiming to cultivate the most cave mushrooms through farming loops, there’s also an added element of sabotage, allowing players to buy and use goo to use against opponents. 

Both fertilizer and water are resources which can be bought to boost and protect the crops, with the main objective to earn PIXEL rewards by depositing mushrooms into the Transmushtation Chute, sabotaging for opponents, reaching milestones, and climbing the leaderboards.

As for the milestones, they’re based on various activities players and guilds can achieve, including

  • using the most goo on other guilds’ crops,
  • earning the most guano points, and
  • accumulating the most spores points.

Each activity contains its own point value, which will count on the overall leaderboards.

Currently the most popular web3 game in terms of daily active players, since the introduction of guilds in March 2024, Pixels claims it’s accumulated over 1,700 active guilds.

“When we introduced Pixels Guilds, the purpose was to help us implement more social dynamics and play, with guilds becoming an important part of the core gameplay experience. We are excited to introduce Guild Crop Wars as one way to bring more engagement and fun to our community and we plan to use the insights gained from this event to inform future liveops events,” said Pixels CEO and founder Luke Barwikowski.

The rise of Ronin-based social RPG Pixels has been one of 2024’s trends we’ve covered in some depth. However, it looks as if the launch of its chapter 2 refresh in mid-June has shaken up that narrative.

Simply put, over a couple of days, Pixels’ DAUWs (as recorded by various open data sources) dropped from over 900,000 to 252,000. It’s since rebounded somewhat to 428,000.

The rise and fall looks like this.

The main point of chapter 2 has been to refocus the game’s rewards for active and high performing players, hence the presumption is that the vast majority of the drop in audience comes from removing bot accounts.

Indeed, Pixels’ CMO Heidi Christine states this, tweeting

From the series of interviews we’ve had with the Pixels team, it’s always seemed to be more concerned about players’ satisfaction than recording an abstractly high audience level (including bots). And it’s worth pointing out that many successful blockchain games have gone through a similar process.

Looking back, in mid-2022 Splinterlands made significant changes to its leaderboard reward system for exactly the same reason as Pixels: it had become too easy for bots to extract rewards so the system was rebased towards players with more expensive NFTs card collections.

The result was a similar 68% DAUWs drop over a couple of days.

Alien Worlds hasn’t experienced quite such a distinct event, but as the original tap-to-earn game, it’s been stamping on bots – adding recaptcha, rebalancing rewards etc – since 2021. During one of these efforts, it lost 43% of its DAUWs in a short period in late 2023.

To that degree then, what Pixels has just experienced is par for the course. Good developers know they have to make such adjustments if they want their game to sustain over many years.

However, for Splinterlands and Alien Worlds, the process of stamping down on bots didn’t see those games rewarded with more real players. Both games experienced steadily falling activity in 2023 and 2024 – and a lack of token price uplift – although they still remain in top 10 of games in terms of daily onchain activity. And this tension underlines the challenge that Pixels will have to overcome in the coming days.

Having a very high audience (including bots) also attracts real players. Reducing headline activity can reduce such organic marketing. Yet ensuring your game economy isn’t being extracted by bots is also crucial. Time to square the circle.

Once the clear market leader in blockchain gaming – with signature IP Axie Infinity kickstarting the first bullrun – Sky Mavis is now driving momentum in a different manner; through the ecosystem of its Ronin blockchain.

So, with some questioning the pulse of the sector, it was a good opportunity to fire some questions over to Sky Mavis co-founder Jeff Zirlin and get his take on what’s happening now and in the future.

BlockchainGamer: Is web3 gaming dead?

Jeff Zirlin: Last month, Ronin reached an all time high of 1.6 million DAUs. And according to DefiLlamaAxie and Pixels are the top NFT projects by monthly recurring revenue.

  • Axie Infinity‘s monthly rev is $306,000,
  • Pixels’ monthly rev is $1.3 million.

This is compared to Yuga Labs and Pudgy Penguins, which are both at $146,000.

This week Ronin users purchased over $10 million worth of Moku raffle tickets. Contrary to what some influencers on crypto Twitter might claim, web3 gaming is far from dead – it’s thriving and Ronin is leading the way.

Is web3 gaming apart from Ronin dead?

Ronin is the leader due to its unparalleled focus on community and distribution.

However, we are actually starting to see some interesting contributions from the rest of the space such as The Beacon, which recently hosted a successful p2a event.

Is web3 gaming apart from Pixels dead?

The migration of Pixels to Ronin highlights our power as a games distribution platform. Since the migration in October, Pixels experienced explosive growth, with its DAU surging from 5,000 to over 1 million, and has reached another major milestone with over 5 million lifetime wallets. We are proud of what Luke and the Pixels team have been able to accomplish.

We haven’t seen any evidence that more aggressive games onboarding would have succeeded.

That said, there are plenty of other games and projects building on Ronin that are adding immense value to the ecosystem and web3 gaming. Apeiron, the world’s first NFT-based godgame, went from 8,000 DAUs to 80,000 DAUs after migrating to Ronin. In the last week, Sky Mavis announced major plans to scale, Lumiterra’s migration, 2.2 million RON tokens committed to the Moku Lucky Draw, and a partnership with Earn Alliance. 

Given the above, have you changed your priors that there will be a large number of successful blockchain games or should we reconsider that perhaps there will only be a small number of successful blockchain games?

We believe that the gaming community is looking for diverse gaming experiences, and Ronin will be the distribution platform for those diverse games aiming to onboard the next billion people into crypto through gaming.

It’s likely that the most successful games will be magnitudes larger than the rest. This is also the case in traditional gaming.

Although you have announced plans for this, will we look back and see the relative slowness of Ronin to become more decentralized more quickly to be a weakness?

We believe that history will look back favorably on our focused approach during the early days of the network. We haven’t seen any evidence that more aggressive games onboarding would have succeeded, if this was the case then Ronin would not be the market leader right now.

Despite your best efforts, the various versions of Axie Infinity (and its companion games like Homeland) remain relatively small in terms of audience. Isn’t it time for Sky Mavis to park the IP as a legacy brand and come up with something new?

Axie is in a more mature state relative to other web3 gaming IPs. Therefore, we might have a bias to seeing it as boring or stable. However, in the first half of this year we’ve seen major growth.

For example, since we deployed the Axie Bounty Board in April we’ve seen:

  • Axie daily active addresses go from 12,600 to 59,800 (+378%) 
    • MAA from 26,500 to 209,800 (+691%)
  • Origins DAU +80%
  • Classic DAU +223%
  • Avg daily trading volume go from 62,200 to 151,300 (+143%). 
    • Monthly trading volume is up from 2.3 million to 3.4 million (+47%)
  • Avg daily treasury revenue has gone from 4,000 to 11,800 (+195%)
    • Monthly trading revenue go from 222,000 to 306,300 (+37%)

Axie is still the #1 NFT and gaming IP by ecosystem revenue, aside from Pixels. However Pixels is in an earlier, more volatile stage of growth.

Finally, will the most successful blockchain games over the next couple of years be web2.1 titles that can be distributed through app stores finding a mass audience, or experiences that leverage fully integrated blockchain primitives?

There will likely be two baskets of successful games.

Web3 native IPs and teams like Axie/Pixels that lean into web3 mechanics and community building.

There will also be web2 IPs like Ragnorok that are able to successfully transition to the web3 world and bring much of their existing fandom.

At the back of launching major update chapter 2, the small Pixels team continues to build in the open, propagating values such as transparency, alongside not being afraid to polish (or remove) what’s not working.

As with any growing company however, it’s not free from pain points, notably, how do you manage to keep your players satisfied?

BlockchainGamer checked in with Pixels‘ CMO Heidi Christine, who highlights the importance of being deeply present in the community and to not over-promise. She also shares her experience of being one of the few outspoken females in the space, emphasising the need of supporting each other.

BlockchainGamer: How did you originally get involved with Pixels, before it became a job?

Heidi Christine: I studied Electrical Engineering at university and then worked in project management and client relations for a software company. Seeking more creativity, I left my job in February 2020, downloaded Adobe Suite, and taught myself digital marketing. During the pandemic, I freelanced in content creation, marketing management, podcast editing, and illustration.

In December 2022, a friend of mine met Luke [Barwikowski, Pixels‘ CEO] at an accelerator and connected us, as he was looking for part time marketing support. I was initially brought on for 20 hours per week. That lasted one week. By the end of the month, we were working side-by-side in Miami recruiting developers at a Tech Week event. 

Were you into web3 gaming before joining the team?

No I wasn’t! But I’m a HUGE mini game player! Before Pixels I actually didn’t define myself as a gamer because I don’t meet the typical stereotype. I’m quite public about this narrative needing to change, and wrote a post about it a while ago.

Considering the game’s strong growth and enthusiastic audience, how do you prioritize communications in terms of what you want to tell the audience and what they want to know?

Web3 gaming is all about building in public and success comes down to player feel and sentiment. You need to be present, deep in the community, gathering feedback & information all the time. From there, you can best determine what will satisfy the masses, vs. what truly needs to be translated. Oftentimes we have to release something that may cause negative sentiment, so we need to be careful about explaining the why properly and get player buy-in. 

The only strong advice I can give is try not to overpromise. This includes potential new mechanics and target dates! We love having the conversation of ‘what are cool new things we can make’ but have to be careful to not promise anything until our design and development team has started building the feature. Transparently – we have learned this the hard way! 

Why do you think the game appeals so much to web3 gamers?

We’re in a unique position where we can experiment with incentive design. Because of our token release, we’re able to test user segmentation and reward our users directly. This is very unique to web3 gaming as it requires access to capital that just doesn’t exist in web2 in early-stage companies.

The obvious answer to this question would be web3 gamers love token rewards, but I also believe these users enjoy being involved in ground breaking technology and experimentation. Also, web3 is all about community, and we have a strong one. Many of our players are here for the social aspect, which we’ve nailed. 

What are the strengths and weaknesses of Pixels being such a small team?

Our team is young, lean, and scrappy, figuring out how to make things work which is a massive strength in web3 where everything moves fast. Because we’re so present in the community, we’re able to react quickly and make changes fast. 

Our weaknesses are also born from this mentality – we’re going through some typical company growing pains and are reworking project management structures to be more sustainable long-term.

What are some of the sector specific requirements, such as transparency and community expectations, that you find most challenging, and how do you manage them?

In web3, some users believe that they’re owed something. Even when we’re giving away free fun things in-game, users want more. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this, but we need to set clear expectations of what it takes to build a sustainable economy and ecosystem with long-term potential. No one has nailed it in web3 gaming yet, but we intend to do so. 

Personally, how have you found it becoming one of the two public faces of the game (alongside Luke)?

Overall, it’s been a lot of fun and I love connecting with our community. Our weekly live streams and active socials are always highlights of my week! 

I do have a unique experience as a professional working woman, being the face of a web3 company. I receive a lot of sexist comments, people undermining my abilities and worth, or picking apart my looks. It’s hard, but I’m strong and push forward. I want to create an oasis for all women and people who identify with minority groups in web3. It’s not an easy place for us to exist, but with the support of others, we’ll get there. 

What gets you most excited in terms of Pixels‘ roadmap?

The future really is our oyster – but we have to do it right. There are endless possibilities for where we can take this. One path I’m excited to see is if we can onboard/create many games within the PIXEL ecosystem. I’d love to onboard new types of gamers and watch the community & economy flourish in multiple directions.

In the latest episode of his Blockchain Gaming World podcast, editor-in-chief Jon Jordan talks to Pixels CEO Luke Barwikowski about the growth of the social RPG, which is now the most popular blockchain game in terms of daily active wallets.

As well as talking about the problems of scaling the game and building out the developer for long term success, we also discuss Pixels‘ Chapter 2, which will change many of the game’s underlying features, making it more exciting for players individually as well as building out deeper progression for in-game guilds.

BlockchainGamer: How’s it going being the most popular blockchain game?

Luke Barwikowski: The more scale that you get, the more attention you’re going to get, the more bad actors you’re going to bring into an ecosystem. We took security super seriously after the release of our token. We moved hundreds of millions of dollars through our software in the first couple of days, so we knew that was the biggest, most important priority. People tried to take advantage of that. People tried to hack us, but overall it was a really smooth launch. We’re really thankful for that because the team put a ton of time, energy and effort before the token was out to make sure that we were safe, secure and solid. 

And then as we’ve scaled, there’s also other issues that start to come up. Servers, infrastructure, the normal stuff like that. Our dev team is amazing, so they’ve done a really good job of scaling. It is not an easy thing to do, to scale a multiplayer game to a million DAUs, especially when it’s real time, all these concurrent users. 

When it comes to org building, we’ve been thinking a lot about that too. We’re in a really amazing spot where we have a lead (if you want to call it that) in terms of web3 gaming users so what we want to start to do is think about how we set the organization up for the next two to five years. 

What we want to be known for is not being a web3 gaming company. In the next five years, we want to be in the conversations of all gaming companies. We want to be a top five gaming company. Setting the organization up for that is the struggle right now; thinking about how we want to build moving forward. What are the things that we should focus on? What kind of talent do we need? And how do we continue the things that have been working really well for us?.

For example, when we first started scaling up, I thought we needed to professionalize the organization a little bit more. I still think we do need to do that to some extent. But also I think what we’re going to start doing is doubling down on the things that people really love about us, which is shipping really fast, giving new updates to the players, keeping them involved in the process. Trying to figure out how to do that at scale with the attention, it’s kind of the fun and tricky part, but that’s the next focus, basically.

Last time we spoke, I think the team was about 15 strong. Has that changed a lot?

No, not significantly. We’re being really careful who we bring on. What’s great is that in 2021, when I was trying to hire talent inside of web3 gaming, it was very difficult. I could get very few people from the industry to sign on. It’s turned for us now where I think some people are waking up to what web3 gaming can be and we’re getting a lot of really good inbound interest. So as we’re building out, the big things I’m looking for is do people want to work hard and be part of something new, because bringing in corporate talent isn’t always the best fit. 

We need people who are willing to be hungry. We also need that professional experience that we haven’t had on this team before too. This is a young scrappy team that’s just figuring out how to make things work and now we want to combine both of those things.

You’ve become something of a figurehead for blockchain gaming. How are you finding that?

It’s cool to know that I can maybe help make the industry better because we have a lot of lessons that we’ve learned from actually having a game out. There are lessons that you can only learn when you have a game out. That was partly why I wanted to work with Sky Mavis and the Axie Infinity team so badly because once I started building a web3 game and we had a live web3 game, I realized, you need experience to understand what the problems even are. 

So yeah, I just want to do my part and help other people in the space make the space better. Because if the space grows, that’s also good for us. Like it’s easy for me to hire. It’s easier to like onboard new users if there’s more reputation and like a better view of the space with everybody. So we need better games to come out. I’m dying for them as well.

How come Pixels is growing by 10x when other blockchain games are growing 10%?

Partly it’s because we look for the 10x improvements. I think a lot of games people are used to looking for 10 % improvements. When you’re dealing in a very competitive space, you need to hyper-optimize so you’re looking for the things in your pipelines that can maybe improve like a 5% funnel. Because when you’re talking web2 gaming and you’re dealing with the volume they typically do, a 5% improvement in one moving users from one screen to another might be millions in revenue, right? 

A lot of people in gaming are part of a huge organization and so when they come into web3 gaming, they bring their expertise. That’s going to be important in three to five years as more web3 games come out and they’re all competing for attention. But right now we’re in a pretty uncompetitive market, meaning that there’s not a lot of games out here. So what we look for are the 10x improvements. My team is more focused on the 80:20. We want to get features out that are like 80% polished.

When the space gets more competitive, we’ll probably have to be doing that 20% polish. It takes a lot of time, so we’d rather focus on the things that are new and innovative to get attention and move quicker because to me there’s still so much value to be unlocked in web3. 

One of the next things that we’re going to be working on is reward targeting. At first I was debating, do we hire this crazy data science team here, or do we just cowboy it and build something that’s 80% as good as something in web2. When we add the web3 native methods, it’s probably going to be extremely powerful. We’ll get it out quicker. We don’t need to spend as many resources on it. So that’s kind of the approach; build stuff quickly, build new things, and try to iterate on them as quickly as possible.

It’s interesting that your token has a lot of internal utility. You specifically say it’s not speculative.

When we were helping the foundation design the token, we had a very different view of how tokens work compared to other teams. We’ve been very intentional about not designing a Ponzinomics scheme. Really how we view tokens is more like free-to-play gaming. I don’t think it’s too different in the long run. I think you could pull off a lot of stuff that we’re doing with web3 gaming with fiat currency in the long run, if the team wanted to do that. The interesting stuff to me is more viewing the token as a user acquisition tool. 

Then the innovation we’re actually doing is what I like to call direct-to-consumer rewards. Tokenomics should not be so complicated. I have an economics degree. I love tokenomics. I was studying them. If you remember the space two years ago, I would read whitepapers and I couldn’t make sense of them. You expect the average gamer that’s playing your game to understand it and they need to understand it to play the game. It was a little ridiculous. And a lot of those tokens aren’t even around anymore. 

At the end of the day, what we think about is there’s two sides. One, we want to give tokens to people who are more likely to use the tokens in the game. It’s not so easy. That’s much easier said than done. And then we want to make sure that the tokens are used inside of the game. If we pull both of these off, essentially we can create a system that looks a lot like a free-to-play game, except some people might end up coming out net positive, so play-to-earn. That’s the interesting part. 

If you can make a system where 95% of your users are net zero or maybe even net positive when it comes to earnings, and then 5% of your users monetize like a free-to-play userbase,  that’s sustainable. We’re not that far from cracking it, I would say. We basically need like 2x revenue from where it’s at right now to be net positive spend inside of the ecosystem, and we have basically done nothing to optimize monetization.

And players don’t need to know any of this. They can just play the game. They might get some tokens, which is pretty cool. It’s a great user experience, the first time that you earn a token inside of a game. Then we just need to make the game fun and give them reasons to use the token. Some people might want to, some people might not, and that’s totally okay.

So the big thing happening next week is the launch of Pixels Chapter 2. Can you tell us about that?

We’ve been building a live game for two years, and we’ve learned so many lessons. But we built Pixels in a very interesting way. It was like a hodgepodge of all these different things that we tried out and now we’re in an interesting spot where we want to start building a better system for the future. We want to make the game make more sense, so this is a whole systems redesign. 

If you look at the game, it’s going to look exactly the same on the surface level, but the way the players interact with the game on the day-to-day is going to be very different. The way that we distribute rewards, the progression, all of this stuff is changing. Really it’s like version two of the game. It’s going to look very similar but play extremely differently. 

There are a few goals that we’re trying to achieve. The first being we need the game to make a little bit more sense to the typical gamer. The systems coming in are going to be more MMO-like if you’ve ever played games like Runescape, World of Warcraft, Ragnarok Online, MapleStory. There’s a much stronger sense of progression when it comes to resources that you’re able to unlock. You have to get higher level tools, all the stuff you’re really used to seeing in social multiplayer games. We’re finally incorporating this. 

We’re changing some of the resource generation mechanics inside of the game too. We talk about cyber prevention, about detection a lot. My take is there’s a bunch of different layers to that problem. One being the prevention, the capture side of things to the detection and banning, preventing people from signing up again, if you already blocked them – fingerprinting. Then the fourth area that’s really important is that the game is designed well, so some of the game design we’re implementing is supposed to be more cyber resistant. 

Part of the end goal is we want to give out more rewards to more real users who have progressed further through the game. We want to create incentive structures to get further through the game. That’s part of the reason behind some of these changes. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Guilds are really tied into this release too so some of the social play. Then we’ve also focused a lot on a single player experience. Together, we think these things are going to create a better base for the future of the game and just make a much better experience for users. But it’s funny because there are still some things we haven’t quite fixed yet.

We don’t have great tutorials. The onboarding experience isn’t great. But it wasn’t the intention behind this. I wouldn’t say we’re going for the mass market yet. There are still a few things we want to test first before we start to polish and finetune. But this is basically the first step in creating a better base of the game and getting more content updates out quickly because it creates a better base to send out more content to the users – new industries, new types of items, new tiers, all of this. We’re trying to do this on at least a monthly cadence moving forward, content packs and all this stuff.

How are you looking to improve guilds, because this is both external guilds like YGG and also native Pixels guilds too, right?

Yes. There  are Pixels native guilds. They’re natively integrated into the game. They’re going to be a really big part of the gameplay inside of Chapter 2. One of the big changes to the game’s systems is that resource generation is now single use. Basically if somebody’s farming on a plot of soil on NFT lands, then only one person at a time can use it. Guilds are going to be the guardians of the resource generation. <ost guilds have ownership over land inside of the game and it’s going to be up to them how they want to self organize. So if players want to gather resources that are land-only, they might have to join a guild or get permission from a guild to come onto the land and harvest some of the resources. That’s a new social element of gameplay, requiring a lot of cooperation.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m pretty optimistic. We’ve been talking to the guild leaders and players who are involved in the guilds quite often. They’re very excited about it. There’s still some new tools that we probably need to go and build, but that’s gonna be part of the experimentation.

Have you got to the stage of having web2 gamers playing Pixels yet or is it mainly web3 people?

I would say a lot of our users are somewhat familiar or they have a friend or a family member that is web3, but these users are a lot more casual with it. Pixels is probably their only web3 interaction. They might mint an NFT specifically for Pixels to use a skin, and that’s basically all they do onchain. These aren’t degens. They’re really wholesome. If you look at some of the content that we post on X you’ll see they’re really sweet, really awesome users..

It’s funny how the crypto gaming crowd has instead gone really degen with onchain games on Blast.

I think there’s a place for that kind of stuff. That was one area that was really neglected for a long time, too. But there aren’t many casual crypto experiences, like ones your mom would play, even now. I’m really surprised that we’re like one of the only ones right now.

I guess it shows that people still really like the FarmVille-style gaming?

It’s a great comparison. FarmVille is a great example. You can’t knock their success. It’s amazing what they were able to do. I am obsessed with the early days of Zynga. It’s a huge inspiration for what we’re doing.

In terms of the rest of the year, what’s the focus?

There are two things we’re focusing on. One is just the growth of the game, making sure the game is getting more fun, getting more content out, making sure the players are happy. Then there’s other experiments that we’re doing that are those 10x improvements. I’m very optimistic about the data science stuff that we’re doing and the effect it’s going to have on the ecosystem. 

For example, if we figure out some of the user acquisition technology we’re building, there’s a really interesting use case for us to bring on or acquire other games or build our own games. We’re already starting building out other titles now with Pixels IP but if we can start to prove out this user acquisition technology, then it’s a huge competitive advantage for us. We might have tech that can scale rapidly, wildly just like this game and do like four or five other games at the same time.

And because Pixels is more casual, you’re not waiting for the rise of crypto games. You can just find gamers. 

Yes. I’m so optimistic and weirdly confident of getting the incentives right and the growth will come. It’s just what we’ve seen so far basically. It makes sense. If there’s incentives, they should get filled. 

And there’s opportunity for us to juice this up too. We’ve done nothing with incentivized referrals or incentivized content. We’ll start doing that when we’re really ready to push the growth levers.

Hitting 1.5 million daily active users earlier in May, Sky Mavis’ Ronin continues to deliver and expand as one of the top gaming blockchains. We have tracked the recent news and forthcoming launches relating to some of the top games within the network.

Currently the most popular blockchain game, social RPG Pixels, has revealed details of its upcoming release of chapter 2, which will change the game, its resource generation, and earning mechanisms significantly.

Going live 17th June, at a quick glance the next iteration will revolve more around skilled gameplay, and a new tiered rewards system means the further players level up, the more PIXEL they can earn. In the next 6-12 months, Pixels is also planning to launch a range of mini-games.

Latest in line to join the Ronin ecosystem, gaming IP Ragnarok, and its forthcoming monster taming MMORPG Ragnarok: Monster World, is currently the most traded NFT collection on Ronin’s Mavis Market. This follows a successful mint earlier this week where the game’s Nyang Kit NFTs minted out in less than a second. As for Ragnarok: Monster World, it’s expected launch is Q3 2024.

Not far off, as the second most traded NFT collection is mobile RTS Wild Forest with its Lords NFTs. A couple of other collections, including Packs, Skins and Units are also available to buy via Sky Mavis’ Marketplace. Wild Forest’s recent mint saw $1 million worth of NFTs selling out in less than a minute. 

Following this, the team has dropped details about what to expect with the official game launch later in June 2024. The two main features include Unit Perks and Arcade mode. Whereas Perks are various abilities which unlock randomly as a unit levels up, Arcade is a new mode aiming to focus on fun gameplay that doesn’t impact ratings or league standings, nor does it require a deck to play. 

Finally, hybrid PC god game Apeiron has started its $1 million Guild Wars 2024 tournament, with the initial guilds battling to secure tournament slots.

On 25th April, the most popular blockchain game Pixels made headlines by surpassing a total of 3 million life-time wallets.

But there seems to be no slowing down the game’s upward trend in terms of active unique wallets. Expanding further, Pixels has now hit another milestone by breaking 1 million daily actives, with a total of 1,024,243 wallets signing in to the game on Sunday 12th May.

Browser-based social RPG Pixels, which moved from Polygon to relaunch on Sky Mavis’ Ronin blockchain in November 2023, is also closing in on 4 million life-time wallets, currently sitting at 3.7 million, which is up 23% since 25th April.

The next symbolic mark to reach will be the 1.1 million DAUW peak reached by Axie Infinity in November 2021. Surpassing that would see Pixels as the most popular blockchain game ever.

While some proportion of these users are inevitably bots, Pixels is unique in that it’s also generating an increasing amounts of revenue from over 200,000 players spending $10 a month in Ronin’s RON token to gain a VIP membership.

The browser game, which relaunched on Sky Mavis’ Ronin blockchain in November 2023, has now surpassed 3 million life-time users in terms of unique wallets.

Of course, some proportion of these will be bots. Nevertheless, the game’s growth is still accelerating, with daily activity at an all-time high of 868,780 unique wallets according to DappRadar.

More significantly, however, is that the game is generating increasing amounts of revenue, with over 200,000 players spending $10 a month in Ronin’s RON token to gain a VIP membership, which provides in-game benefits such as additional reputation and backpack slots.
