Trump emboldens support from Republican voters with pro-crypto stance, survey finds

Republican presidential candidate and former US President Donald Trump has garnered increased support from his party following his recent embrace of cryptocurrencies, according to a new Paradigm-sponsored survey.

Last month, Paradigm, a crypto-focused venture capital firm, polled 1,025 likely Republican voters’ views on the emerging industry, revealing their deep trust for the current financial system and their support for Trump.

The survey revealed that about 13% of Republicans who claimed to have not planned to vote for Trump are now more likely to do so due to his pro-crypto stance. Another group of respondents also expressed increased enthusiasm to vote for the former president.

The former president has taken a more favorable stance toward crypto and pledged to support the industry. During his campaign, Trump vowed to make the US a Bitcoin mining “powerhouse” and said the flagship crypto “maybe [the] last line of defense” against a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Meanwhile, most respondents recognized crypto as a significant force in the US economy. As a result, 40% suggested that the US government should create a pathway for American companies to develop products like stablecoin to compete against China’s central digital bank currency, the digital yuan.

Furthermore, about 60% of respondents stated that Congress should pass legislation to provide regulatory clarity for the crypto industry. Also, 40% believed elected representatives should oversee crypto regulation instead of unelected appointees at government agencies like the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The poll also highlighted a rise in Republican’s crypto usage. Since March 2024, the percentage of Republicans owning or having bought crypto has increased from a national average of 19% to 28%.

Among these individuals, 87% plan to buy more crypto in the next year, while the remaining 13% intend to make their first crypto purchase within the next twelve months.

Many respondents cited distrust of financial systems as a reason for venturing into crypto. The report stated:

“72% of Republican voters are at least somewhat concerned that they could lose access to financial services due to their political or religious views.”

Cathie Wood says she will vote for Trump as he is ‘best’ choice for US economy

Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood said she intends to vote for former US president Donald Trump in the forthcoming November elections.

Wood revealed her intentions during an interview with financial analyst Kevin Paffrath during the weekend. She said:

“I am going to vote for the person who’s going to do the best for our economy. I am a voter when it comes to economics. And on that basis, Trump.”

The Ark CEO further explained that her decision was influenced by economist Arthur Laffer’s description of the first three years of the Trump presidency “as the best in US economic history.”

Wood is the latest major figure from the crypto industry to publicly endorse Trump. The former President has adopted a more favorable stance toward crypto in recent months and pledged to support the industry and end the Biden administration’s “war on crypto” if elected.

Trump also recently vowed to make the US a Bitcoin mining “powerhouse” and said the flagship crypto “may be [the] last line of defense” against a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Crypto has become an increasingly important issue for American voters this election cycle and many are expected to vote for Trump in November due to the Biden administration’s policies toward the industry.

Trump’s endorsement grows

Wood’s endorsement of Trump aligns with several crypto stakeholders and billionaires backing his re-election campaign.

Last week, Gemini co-founders Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss donated $1 million each in Bitcoin to Trump’s campaign and said they would vote for him in the Presidential elections. They wrote:

“President Trump is Pro-Bitcoin, Pro-Crypto, Pro-Business. And he will put an end to the Biden Administration’s war on crypto.”

Before that, venture capitalist David Sacks also stated that he supports Trump’s re-election, citing concerns with how President Joe Biden’s administration has handled the economy. He stated:

“I am giving my endorsement to our 45th President, Donald J. Trump, to be our 47th President. My reasons rest on four main issues that I think are vital to American prosperity, security, and stability – issues where the Biden administration has veered badly off course and where I believe President Trump can lead us back.”

Former US President Donald Trump has shifted his attention to Bitcoin miners in his drive towards embracing the crypto industry.

In a June 12 post on Truth Social, Trump expressed support for Bitcoin mining, highlighting its potential to bolster energy dominance. He pledged to support these technologies, especially if he is re-elected as US president. He wrote:

“Bitcoin mining may be our last line of defense against a CBDC. Biden’s hatred of Bitcoin only helps China, Russia, and the Radical Communist Left. We want all the remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA!!! It will help us be ENERGY DOMINANT!!!”

This statement follows a recent meeting on June 11 with several prominent US Bitcoin miners, including representatives from CleanSpark, Riot Platforms, and Marathon Digital.

Matthew Schultz, the Executive Chairman of CleanSpark, claimed that Trump has a proper understanding of the sector. He reportedly said:

“President Trump will protect your right to own Bitcoin, to mine Bitcoin, to transact with Bitcoin, and for many of us, to work in the Bitcoin industry.”

David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, another attendee, described the meeting as “a historic moment in our journey towards hyperbitcoinization.” He added:

“The former and next President of the United States gathered America’s hashrate and committed to championing our cause in DC and on the global stage. Bitcoin will THRIVE in the US.”

These developments come as crypto miners face increased scrutiny over their environmental impact and the strain on local power grids. Earlier in the year, US authorities attempted to collect data about crypto miners’ energy consumption rate but were met with stiff opposition from stakeholders in the sector. Trump’s support for the sector has the potential to influence political perceptions about how it operates.

Meanwhile, the former president’s support for cryptocurrencies seems to be boosting his election chances. On Polymarket, a leading crypto-based prediction platform, Trump holds a 56% probability of winning, while Joe Biden’s chances have dropped to 35%.

In these months leading up to the American presidential elections, there are those who are betting everything on crypto memes and Donald Trump-themed NFTs. The idea of the crypto fund Mechanism Capital is to profit from the excitement surrounding the presidential candidate.

Mechanism Capital has shared its strategy for accumulating crypto meme and Donald Trump-themed NFTs, in anticipation of the upcoming American elections.

Andrew Kang, founder of the crypto and DeFi investment company, has published a tweet describing his basic theory, stating that he has accumulated the first new positions of 2024.

In practice, Kang predicts that the news cycle about presidential candidate Trump has just begun, and it will increasingly be the center of attention, causing a surge in tokens dedicated to him.

Here’s how Kang describes his bet on crypto memes and Trump-themed NFTs on X:

“[..] This bet is not just about whether Trump wins or not. Surveys indicate that it is very likely that he will win, but that is not the point: the point is that he will always be in the headlines and people will constantly talk about Trump. His strategy is to be provocative, to say outrageous and funny things, things that keep people engaged. The same Kang, continues in his tweet to describe his research on which crypto meme and Trump-themed NFTs to bet on.

And indeed, there are several Donald Trump-themed tokens developed on Ethereum, Solana, and other blockchains. At the time of writing, some of these have recorded a 100% surge in the last 24 hours, thanks in part to Mechanism Capital’s position.

In this regard, Kang states that only Trump tokens with the highest market capitalization will have a certain longevity and will serve as a gathering point for all speculations related to the candidate.

Anyway, Mechanism’s bet seems to be on the specific meme coin TRUMP, offered by @MAGAmemecoin.

TRUMP has a market capitalization of over 90 million dollars and has recorded 3.3 million dollars in trading volumes in the last 24 hours, according to the data from DEXTools. The issuance of the TRUMP token, or any other meme token, has nothing to do directly with the former president of the United States.

It is Trump’s NFT collection of 45,000 digital cards, which had sold out in a matter of hours when it debuted in December, with sales of $3.53 million.

Last week, following news of Trump’s indictment, sales jumped 251%, now exceeding $65,000 total.

At the time of writing, NFT card #3162 is the top selling card of the past 24 hours, and over the past 7 days, priced at over $2,500.

“Trump Digital Trading Card” NFTs depict portraits of the former President posing with a “Trumpworld” sign in the “Hollywood” style, or as a superhero with lasers shooting from his eyes or as an astronaut.

The Non-Fungible Tokens of Trump and the call before the court

This surge in sales of Trump’s Non-Fungible Tokens coincides with him being called before a Manhattan courtroom yesterday.

The former president, who is running to reclaim his old office, was indicted by a grand jury last week on charges of making alleged secret money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

What happened yesterday was only a formalization of those charges, but it is the first time in American history that a former commander in chief has been criminally indicted.

For his part, Trump claimed that “there was no crime on Trump’s part” in posts on his social media platform Truth Social. Not only that, the former president derided the indictment as a “witch hunt.”

From being against the crypto world to selling NFTs on Polygon network

Initially, Trump had sided with those opposed to the crypto world, even calling “Bitcoin as a scam.”

It was only in December 2022 that Trump had apparently changed his mind, and launched his NFT collection on the Polygon network.

A move that would leave both NFT enthusiasts and Trump supporters incredulous and amazed. In fact, the “Collect Trump Cards” campaign was then promoted through his official account on Truth Social, with an initial sale price of each NFT of $99.

It appears to be official: Donald Trump’s NFTs are plunging, with hype dying down and a drop of about 70%.

Last week, Donald Trump’s first official NFT collection was the news of the moment in the cryptocurrency world, captivating the people on Twitter.

In any case, after prices and trading volume rose over the weekend, both metrics fell sharply as the enthusiasm around the former US president’s project is apparently waning.

Donald Trump’s digital trading cards, minted on Polygon‘s scaling network, peaked on Saturday 17 December, with a trading volume of more than $3.5 million, according to CryptoSlam data.

Moreover, the selling price rose even higher on Sunday, with NFTs selling for an average of just over $680 each, although total volume fell to nearly $1.95 million on the day.

Donald Trump’s NFTs in free fall: was it just initial enthusiasm?

Despite the initial success of Donald Trump’s NFTs, it appears that on Monday daily trading fell 57% to about $836,000 of ETH, with the average selling price dropping to about $466. However, these days, the cheapest Trump NFT available for sale on the main OpenSea market is trading at only 0.21 ETH, or about $255.

Specifically, Trump launched its digital trading card NFTs last Thursday, with 44,000 NFTs sold for $99 each in the primary sale.

Buyers were incentivized by the chance to win a meeting or dinner with the former president, among other potential perks. Another 1,000 NFTs were retained by the project creators, for a total supply of 45,000.

And despite widespread teasing and criticism of the project, which included some of Trump’s supporters, the project sold out within 24 hours and fueled secondary market demand. Since then, the project has accumulated secondary transactions worth more than $8.7 million.

Momentum peaked over the weekend, with the lowest price, or cheapest listed NFT, reaching 0.84 ETH (about $990) on Saturday.

Prices rose and fell in a volatile market before the NFTs were made fun of NBC’s late-night comedy show, Saturday Night Live. Three days later, the minimum price dropped 74% when measured in USD.

Trump’s digital trading card project is ranked only 10th on CryptoSlam’s list of top-selling projects in the last 24 hours.

It has about $472,000 in sales during that time frame, while the Bored Ape Yacht Club tops the list with $3.8 million in NFT sales.

Why have Trump Digital Trading Cards been criticized?

Besides being a combination of already divisive topics- Trump and NFTs – the project has also been criticized for apparently using stolen artwork for some of its cards. In addition, the 1,000 NFTs kept by the project’s creators appear to contain a disproportionate amount of “rare” collectibles, prompting further skepticism from NFT observers.

Still, digital collectibles have crept into the cultural spotlight Saturday night as an object of satire on the late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live.

Last night’s episode, in fact, opened with a skit by comedian James Austin Johnson, who mimicked the former president’s announcement unveiling digital collectibles.

In Johnson’s portrayal of Trump, referring to NFTs by their “technical term” as “Nifties,” the comedian said:

“Sounds like a scam, and in many ways it is, but we love Trump cards.”

Johnson also referred to ongoing investigations surrounding Trump, such as his alleged mishandling of classified information, during the comedian’s satirical promotion of digital collectibles.

Also, lifting a box full of documents labeled “classified,” the comedian said:

“The best part is that each card has an automatic chance to win an exclusive mystery prize where you can pick anything from this cool box.”

One more look at the latest news about the new NFT collection of Donald Trump, who recently announced his entry into the crypto world.

The Trump Digital Trading Cards (TRUMP) were born almost as a joke and constitute a sudden jolt to the NFT world.

The former President of the United States of America, who has always been a very divisive figure, beloved by his entourage and half of Americans and much criticized by the rest of Americans, has always positioned himself with distrust toward the crypto and NFT worlds even with strong statements in the past.

For Trump, cryptocurrencies and NFTs were until recently a real threat to the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

Negative words also for Bitcoin, repeatedly labeled a scam, a Ponzi scheme by the histrionic entrepreneur lent to politics.

Every cloud has a silver lining, and it was probably this tranchant attitude that made what happened with the NFT collection unbelievable.

Trump steps into the crypto world: news and updates on the Trump Cards collection

In a move that displaced everyone, Donald Trump announced and put up for sale a collection of NFT Cards depicting him in a variety of even sympathetic ways, which soon sold out causing the price to skyrocket.

The promotional campaign began Thursday, and the Trump Digital Trading Cards were announced directly from the politician’s Twitter account recently rehabilitated by fellow politician and new social owner Elon Musk.

In the post, he announced that the digital collection minted on Polygon (Ethereum’s Layer 2) would be priced at $99 each and would be utility cards.

Those who owned the lucky NFT drawn at random would be entitled to a dinner with former President Trump.

In total there are 45,000 NFTs in the collectibles and they can only be purchased for a maximum of 100 units per purchaser.

“Collect all your favorite Trump digital trading cards, just like a baseball card, but hopefully a lot more exciting. It would make a great Christmas present. Do not wait. They will go away, I think, very quickly!”

These were Donald Trump’s words to potential future collectors.

Many other campaigns had featured the histrionic politician but this is the first and only one sponsored and made official by Trump himself.

The initially skyrocketing price has been very volatile and today the lowest price was $149.58.

The last day’s sales volume was 1117.31 Ethereum, an exorbitant figure for a new entry in the NFT world especially coming from a former detractor of the asset.

Former US president’s NFT holders to date number 14674 for a total market capitalization of $7.5 million.

The lowest price since launch to date has been $4 but no one has taken advantage so the minimum purchase price has been $120 but cards have also been sold for 505 ETH or $598,000 for a single NFT.

The stunt has netted a stratospheric sum for Donald Trump and there are already those who are betting that Truth the former President’s social will soon open to crypto purchases and new NFT collections.

Available for purchase from December 16-31, 2021, directly on her website, is Melania Trump’s new NFT Art. The Non-Fungible Token is called ‘Melania’s Vision’ and depicts the woman’s eyes; it is a limited edition priced at 1 SOL ($175 at the time of writing).

The proceeds will be given to the Be Best initiative to help children.

The press release describes how the limited-edition Non-Fungible Token, signed by Trump, will be available for sale on her official website, from December 16-31, 2021, with the goal of supporting the country’s children in the Be Best initiative.

In this regard, Melania Trump comments as follows:

“I’m proud to announce my NFT endeavor, which embodies my passion for the arts, and will support my ongoing commitment to children through my Be Best initiative. Through this new technology-based platform, we will provide children computer science skills, including programming and software development, to thrive after they age out of the foster community.”

By purchasing Trump’s NFT, ‘Melania’s Vision’ (a watercolor by Marc-Antoine Coupon depicting Melania’s cobalt blue eyes), the collector will also receive an amulet of inspiration and an audio recording of Mrs. Trump with a message of hope.

The Non-Fungible Token was built on Solana Blockchain, and the price of the work is 1 SOL, $175 at the time of writing. As a method of payment, you can use crypto or credit card via MoonPay.

Starting in January 2022, Melania Trump will release NFTs on her website at regular intervals with a one-time auction. Each of her NFTs will include the digital artwork, the physical artwork, and the unique physical accessory.

Instagram is also about to enter the NFT industry

According to reports, it seems that Instagram is actively exploring the Non-Fungible Token sector, making them more accessible through its social.

The Chief, Adam Mosseri, in response to a Q&A on its Stories, reportedly said the following:

“Nothing to announce yet, but we’re definitely actively exploring NFTs and how we can make them more accessible to a wider audience. [..]I think it’s an interesting place for us to play and also a way to help creators.”

This could mean that Instagram posts that offer NFTs can be published with a label called “collectible” to alert users that it’s a purchased NFT.
