Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. Everstake and crypto fundraising to help Ukraine

Everstake, a leading Ukraine-based staking services platform, has released a video to encourage people not to stop donating cryptocurrencies to Ukraine.

The crypto world, as we all know, has played an important role in the armed clash between the Russian and Ukrainian people from the very beginning.

The absence of too many bureaucratic steps, third parties and institutions has allowed cryptocurrencies to emerge as a lifeline for the Ukrainian people.

Indeed, many associations have been able to bring in relief goods and aid of all kinds precisely because of the crypto community’s donation.

Everstake: the Ukraine-based blockchain company

Everstake is a blockchain company based in Ukraine.

It is known to be one of the largest providers of decentralized staking, counting, in fact, about 625,000 users.

Behind Everstake’s large project is a very large team spread all over the world. It is a company that has also been involved in the development of complex blockchain products, such as Metaplex.

Everstake and the Deputy Prime Minister’s idea to increase donations

The real news is that Everstake, just a couple of days ago, released a video made in collaboration with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, to urge the crypto community not to stop donating to help the Ukrainian people.

The charity that the blockchain company is trying to help by bringing in new and large donations is called Aid For Ukraine.

The latter is mainly involved in collecting and transporting products and humanitarian aid throughout the country, for all Ukrainians and refugees.

Aid For Ukraine has collected $10 million since the beginning of the conflict

Aid For Ukraine, as already mentioned, raises funds to help the Ukrainian people cope with the enormous military and humanitarian needs they face.

It must also be said that, since its launch, the project has fortunately raised over $60 million in various cryptocurrencies, of which over $45 million has already been spent to purchase first aid kits, rations, bulletproof vests etc.

The initiative is co-funded by Everstake, Kuna, FTX and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

Sergey Vasylchuk, CEO and co-founder of Everstake, said after the rap video was uploaded online:

“Peace comes at a price, but the first wave of donations have subsided. Cryptocurrencies are free from red-tape hurdles, which makes them the most efficient way to provide fast help. Every crypto contribution, no matter big or small, is another nail in the coffin of totalitarianism. Helping Ukraine fight off the invasion means helping us save the free world from enslavement”.

The big donation from the co-founder

Ultimately, since the project’s launch, Everstake and its co-founders Sergey Vasylchuk and Yev Zaifert have managed to bring home around $10 million in donations.

It is worth noting, however, that Yev Zaifert alone has donated around $9 million.

All the proceeds went to Aid For Ukraine and other initiatives, including the Kyiv School of Economics charity foundation.

The rap video ultimately aims to continue to remind the crypto community how important it is to donate and fight for this armed clash to end.

Ukraine and NFT to preserve war memory

Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, has confirmed the launch of the NFT Museum, called the Meta History Museum of War: a timeline of war in which events are represented by Non-Fungible Tokens.

The sale of NFTs, available from 30 March 2022, will be used for the Ukrainian government to raise funds to help the population affected by Russian attacks.

On Friday, the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov posted his announcement directly on the social network of crypto-lovers, Twitter.

This is the launch of Meta History Museum of War, the NFT Museum represented by a timeline of war, in which all events are represented by Non-Fungible Tokens.

The sale of the new NFT collection will be available from 30 March 2022. At the moment, users are asked if they want to make direct donations.

Not just art and gaming: the potential of NFTs exploited for a common purpose

Ukraine: NFT Museum to “preserve the memory of war”

As specified by Fedorov, the purpose of the new NFT collection is to raise funds to help the Ukrainian population, which has been affected by Russian attacks for a whole month, but also to “preserve the memory of war”.

In this regard, the official website describes the mission as follows:

“To preserve the memory of the real events of that time, to spread truthful information among the digital community in the world and to collect donations for the support of Ukraine.

100% of funds from the sale will go directly to the official crypto-accounts of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine to support army and civilians”.

Each NFT represents one news item from each key event in the war and an illustration by an artist. To access it, simply log in with your wallet and wait for another day.

War and crypto: the role of NFTs

The newly announced collection is a confirmation of what Fedorov had already anticipated in mid-March, a fortnight ago.

Even then, it was anticipated that each token would be linked to a work of art representing a war story, taken from reliable sources.

In anticipation of the NFT sale, the site calls attention to donations. In this regard, Mike Novogratz also defended Ukraine against Peter Schiff’s critical remarks about their President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that he would make a donation to the country at war with Russia for the past 23 days.

Ukraine wants to launch a new collection of NFTs dedicated to the war against Russia.

The purpose of NFTs in war

This was revealed to The Guardian by the country’s deputy minister of digital transformation, Alex Bornyakov, who said that this collection will be:

“like a museum of the Russian-Ukrainian war… in NFT format”.

A few days ago Bornyakov himself revealed on Twitter that crypto assets have already proved extremely useful in facilitating funding for the Ukrainian military.

So cryptocurrencies and NFTs are being used for two purposes within this conflict: as a system of transferring funds from external donors to the warring countries – especially Ukraine – and as a way of leaving a permanent trace of what is happening.

Bornyakov’s ministry has also set up a new website to facilitate donations.

The NFT collection of the Russia-Ukraine war

The NFTs in the new collection will be linked to unique works of digital art, and each token will be linked to a work of art representing a war story taken from reliable sources. However, Bornyakov also specified that they will not be available any time soon because it takes time to prepare.

Surely, in addition to the goal of using NFTs to indelibly immortalize what is happening in Ukraine, there is also the goal of raising additional funds, perhaps to be used for reconstruction after the conflict is over.

The role of crypto assets in the war

Crypto assets are playing an important, though certainly not decisive, role in this war. On the one hand, they are proving to be very useful in transferring funds quickly and easily from all over the world to a country in a state of war, overcoming any barriers or limitations that might be imposed by traditional systems.

On the other hand, they are adding new digital tools to the arsenal of countries at war, and in this case to state propaganda.

To all intents and purposes, these are innovations that introduce new methods of fundraising and communication. It is possible that, given the success they have already achieved, they could also be exploited in the future in other similar conflicts, given their relative ease of use.

It is worth bearing in mind that some of the things that can be done with crypto assets have never really been done before with other technologies, because some of the innovations brought by cryptocurrencies are unique and never seen before. It is up to humans to find new and interesting use cases to make the most of them.
