Worldcoin announced that the Wormhole interoperability platform has expanded its World ID feature to the Solana blockchain, according to a Sept. 13 statement.

The expansion is the result of a Worldcoin Foundation grant, which supported the integration of World ID with Solana. However, the feature is not yet active as its smart contracts are still undergoing a security audit, which is expected to be finished in the coming weeks.

WLD climbed 10% to $1.61 following the news before retreating to around $1.51 as of press time, based on CryptoSlate’s data.

World ID on Solana

World ID is key to Worldcoin’s mission. It uses eye scans from Worldcoin’s Orbs to create unique IrisCodes. These codes generate World IDs to verify human identity and tackle the proliferation of bots in the digital world.

Worldcoin stated that the move would allow Solana developers to build applications that “prioritize real humans.”

Wormhole, a cross-chain platform, will enable this on Solana by allowing protocols on the network to seamlessly authenticate people’s World IDs, which were originally verified on Ethereum. World ID is initially built on Ethereum and Optimism.

Robinson Burkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation, commented:

“Bringing World ID to Solana is a big step forward for identity verification. With the integration of World ID and Wormhole Queries, developers can now easily build applications that prioritize real users across chains, improving trust in decentralized ecosystems.”

A wallet linked to the bankrupt FTX exchange recently unstaked 177,693 SOL tokens, valued at $23.75 million, from Solana, according to on-chain data.

Typically, tokens are sent to exchanges to be sold after unstaking. However, as of press time, FTX has yet to move its unstaked Solana holdings.

Nevertheless, the transaction raised concerns that FTX might plan to sell more Solana tokens, as it had done earlier. Earlier this year, the FTX estate auctioned portions of its Solana assets to institutional investors like Pantera Capital and Galaxy Trading.

Meanwhile, a key detail in this recent transaction is that the unstaked 177,693 SOL represents only a fraction of the wallet’s holdings. Solscan data shows that the FTX-associated wallet still holds 7.1 million SOL, valued at around $953 million.

Market observers noted that such large SOL tokens could significantly impact the asset price if unstaked and sold.

Despite these speculations, Solana continues to perform well. SOL gained 2.5% over the past 24 hours, trading at $135.26 at the time of writing.

This price performance could be linked to the broader crypto market recovery, with Bitcoin climbing to $58,000, while other major digital assets like Ethereum, BNB, and others also registered gains.

Alameda Transfers WLD and AAVE

In a related development, FTX’s sister company, Alameda Research, shifted some of its crypto holdings to centralized exchanges Binance and Coinbase.

According to Arkham Intelligence data, Alameda moved 143,800 Worldcoin (WLD), worth approximately $200,000, to Binance and 373 AAVE, valued at $55,300, to Coinbase within the last eight hours.

These transactions are part of the firm’s ongoing asset liquidation efforts amid its bankruptcy proceedings.

Meanwhile, the defunct company wallet still holds about $220 million in digital assets, primarily in BitDAO (BIT), Worldcoin, and Stargate Finance, with a combined value of $130 million.

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced that authorities are investigating seven individuals suspected of illegally buying and selling Worldcoin accounts and tokens, as per a statement on Sept. 9.

Yong, who also chairs the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), said:

“The Police are investigating seven subjects for their suspected involvement in offering the services of buying or selling of Worldcoin accounts and tokens, which constitute offences under Payment Services Act 2019.”

Yong noted that the MAS does not recognize Worldcoin as a qualified payment service under the PS Act. However, he clarified that those who trade Worldcoin accounts and tokens as a business may be engaging in payment services.

According to him, such transactions could be illegal and used to facilitate criminal activities like money laundering and terrorism financing.

Due to this, he warned consumers:

“Consumers should beware of inducements to transfer access of their digital payment token wallet or World ID as these accounts could be misused by third parties. We caution consumers against doing so.”

Worldcoin legal challenges

This investigation into Worldcoin in Singapore comes amid the company’s ongoing legal troubles globally.

Over the past year, regulators like Kenya, South Korea, and Germany have launched probes into Worldcoin’s use of iris biometric data, citing potential breaches of local data protection laws.

However, Worldcoin has continued to abide by local and international laws publicly. The firm has also made critical components of its technology open source to ensure transparency and further enshrine the protection of its users’ data.

Meanwhile, Worldcoin co-founder Alex Blania expressed ambitions to grow the platform on a scale similar to Facebook to increase its utility. Presently, the crypto identity project’s website shows that it has registered more than 6 million users globally in over 160 countries.

Worldcoin’s WLD token is up more than 4% in the last 24 hours and was trading at $1.47 as of press time, according to CryptoSlate’s data.

Worldcoin’s WLD token jumped by more than 12% to over $3 the past day after the project scored significant victories in different jurisdictions.

Worldcoin is a proof-of-personhood crypto project that has faced scrutiny and controversy worldwide since its launch due to its facial data collection. These challenges have significantly impacted the WLD token, down more than 70% since its March all-time high of $11.

However, the project recorded pivotal milestones for its operations this week, prompting a rebound in the asset’s value.

Kenya drops Worldcoin probe

Worldcoin told CryptoSlate that Kenya has ceased its investigation into the project.

In an emailed statement, a Worldcoin spokesperson confirmed that Kenya’s Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had closed its investigation into the project’s alleged data collection violations. Thomas Scott, the Chief Legal Officer at Tools for Humanity, said:

“We are grateful for the DCI’s fair investigation and for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ determination to close the matter. This welcome result is, however, not an end but a beginning. We will continue working with the Government of Kenya and others and we hope to resume World ID registration across the country soon.”

This news would be a welcome development for a project that recently agreed to stop its Spanish operations until the end of the year or until the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA) makes a final decision regarding its investigation of the firm’s data handling practices.

Ecuador expansion

On June 19, Worldcoin announced the upcoming availability of its World ID verification orbs in six locations across two Ecuadorean cities of Guayaquil and Quito.

The orbs will start operating on June 26 in Guayaquil and June 27 in Quito. Starting June 24, Ecuadorians can locate orb sites via the Worldcoin website and app.

This expansion aligns with growing global support for proof-of-humanness initiatives. According to Worldcoin, a staggering 92% of a recent online survey in Ecuador showed that they support technology-based solutions to differentiate humans from bots online.

The same trend was observed in other countries, such as Peru and Colombia, where respondents are wary that bots could “lead to even greater levels of fraud and misinformation.”

Hong Kong’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has prohibited Worldcoin from collecting data in the region due to privacy violation concerns, according to a May 22 notice.

The privacy regulator alleged that Worldcoin collected iris and facial images from 8,302 residents using an iris-scanning device. This data collection aimed to verify user identity and generate iris codes in exchange for WLD tokens. Worldcoin has repeatedly affirmed that biometric data is hashed, meaning no images of Iris scans are stored. However, its terms and conditions do assert that users can ‘opt-in’ to share Iris images to help Worldcoin improve its system.

These actions, according to the regulator, were in violation of local privacy laws. It stated:

“The PCPD considered that the face and iris images collected by the Worldcoin project were unnecessary and excessive, contravening the requirements of DPP.”

Furthermore, the regulator criticized Worldcoin for not providing sufficient information to users, which impeded informed consent. The investigation noted that Worldcoin’s privacy notice was not available in Chinese, making it inaccessible to non-English speaking participants. The PCPD added:

“The Privacy Notice at the material time was not available in Chinese. The PCPD was of the view that participants using Chinese as native language would not be able to clearly understand the relevant policies and practices, terms and conditions of the Worldcoin project, and hence there was a lack of transparency.”

Notably, this enforcement action against Worldcoin aligns with recent measures taken by other countries. Spain, Portugal, and Buenos Aires in Argentina have also acted against the crypto project for similar privacy violations.

However, despite these regulatory hurdles across various borders, Wordlcoin adoption continues to soar. In April, World App, the first native wallet for the crypto project, reached 10 million users in less than 12 months of its launch.

Improving privacy

Worldcoin has recently garnered praise for its data privacy efforts, including commendations from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

In March, co-founder Alex Blania announced that Worldcoin had open-sourced the core software of its ORB technology. This move was paired with the introduction of new features that empower users to control their data usage.

Blania also highlighted Worldcoin’s dedication to working with regulators to enhance their operations.

Worldcoin (WLD) has been integrated into Minecraft servers for user ID verification.

Through apps like LuckPerms, server administrators will be able to identify who are the bots and who, instead, are the verified users, to whom access to Minecraft games is allowed.

Worldcoin (WLD): verification of integrated blockchain-based ID on Minecraft servers

The famous crypto project dedicated to biometric ID and digital wallet, Worldcoin (WLD), has been integrated into Minecraft servers, in order to achieve its mission of verifying players’ IDs through iris scanning.

In practice, the award-winning game owned by Microsoft, Minecraft, will use Worldcoin technology through apps like LuckPerms, which will only allow access to players who are verified with the World ID method.

In the description of LuckPerms, it talks about the “griefing” problem that Minecraft is subject to, which is when users or bots join only to ruin the experience for others.

Here the partnership will allow server administrators to assign roles with existing permission systems, or prevent players from performing certain actions until they verify with World ID.

Going into more detail, for players who want to access Minecraft, they will now have to type a command (like “/verify”) in the chat and access the link they receive, connected to the website of the integration. The player will verify with the World ID and receive the server role and its permissions!

This integration of a blockchain-based project marks a change of perspective in the world of Minecraft.

In fact, last July 2021, Mojang Studios, the Swedish game developer behind the company, stated that blockchain technology or NFTs “cannot be integrated into client and server apps.”

Worldcoin (WLD) and the integration of its ID verification service in Minecraft and beyond

This is today’s news, which is the latest in a long series that Worldcoin has already somehow announced.

And indeed, recently, Worldcoin has launched World ID 2.0, with the aim of improving and revolutionizing the online experience of cryptocurrencies.

Not only that, its innovative “human” digital passport tool has been launched with integrations for popular apps and services such as Minecraft but also Shopify, Reddit, Telegram, Mercado Libre, and others.

Currently, almost 5 million individuals worldwide own a World ID, and over 2.6 million have verified their humanity through an Orb.

In this sense, the Worldcoin Foundation has announced the open-sourcing of the iris recognition system (IRIS), thus establishing a new standard for end-to-end open source systems.

Accessible on the GitHub repository, the IRIS pipeline can be used by the community to run, build, and experiment with the new state of the art in open-source iris recognition.

The price of WLD

At the time of writing, WLD is worth $3.61, down -4% in the last 24 hours, but fairly stable when considering the past week.

This may be due to the fact that the new integration of Luckperms in Minecraft will only focus on the identity verification function of the Worldcoin project and not on the use of WLD.

Anyway, in the last month of the general crypto bull run, WLD recorded a price pump of +45%.

Its total market cap of over 377 million dollars places it at the 145th position in the overall ranking of cryptocurrencies.
