Metalcore, innovative MMO (massive multiplayer online) combat game developed on blockchain and led by the team of experts from Unreal Engine Studio 369, Disney and Lucasfilm, recently secured a $5 million VC funding.
The funds, according to what was announced by industry experts with experience at successful film companies such as Activision, Disney, Lucasfilm, Midway, and others, will be used to add new features to the game and implement a dynamic mission system based on AI.
All the details below.
What is the MetalCore blockchain game?
MetalCore is an MMO mechanized combat game that relies on blockchain infrastructures, based on NFTs and supported by industry experts in GameFi with previous experiences in Disney, Lukasfilm, Activision, Midway and other film studios.
The game is set in a dystopian alien world where users can battle each other in real time, oversee tactical aerial skirmishes, and build their own operational war base with the aim of obtaining world domination.
Metalcore is inspired by cult products such as Warhammer and Star Wars and takes the plot and part of the fantasy setting from the vision of the artist Stephan Martiniere, who is known primarily for his work on successful titles such as Star Wars, Tron: Legacy, and Star Trekking.
Within the game, participants who fight for the conquest of territories have at their disposal a wide range of weapons, vehicles, and equipment, and can recruit pilots, develop lands, and engage in other military activities.
Player versus player clashes occur in PVP mode and sometimes enemies may be powered up by AI and equipped with large combat vehicles.
The blockchain component is sought in the use of gaming resources: by defeating an enemy, it is possible to scan a code that allows you to earn new weapons and vehicles in the form of digital tokens web3, which can then be traded on the secondary market.
Metalcore is not live yet and is expected to be launched by the end of 2024: at the moment, the blockchain to which the entire cryptographic structure will be based on is not known.
The “Closed Beta” phase has recently been concluded, fueling players’ hype for the official launch that will take place in the coming months.
It is worth noting how Metalcore won the GAM3 2022 award as the best shooter game in 2022, in addition to raising funds of 15 million dollars in the previous year
Studio 369, team of experts with experience at Disney and Lucasfilm, at the forefront of developing blockchain gaming applications
The Metalcore blockchain game is supported by Studio 369, a group of Unreal Engine experts focused on PC and console platforms, with past experiences at film studios such as Activision, Lukasfilm, Activision, Midway, and Phosphor.
The team is no stranger to producing a fantasy-themed fighting game: these individuals have in fact already worked in the past on real masterpieces such as MechWarrior 2, Mortal Combat, Gears of War, The Walking Dead, Star Trek, MechWarrior 2, Nether, Silent Hill, Outpost Zero, LOTR Return to Moria, World of Mechs VR and more.
The professionals at Studio 369, who have vertical expertise in creating interactive experiences in open world multiplayer mode, recently announced that they have obtained a $5 million funding to support the expansion of the project.
The fundraising round, which follows the one already started in 2021, was led by the participation of Delphi Digital, BITKRAFT Ventures, Spartan Group, Sanctor Capital and other important investors who will provide a substantial economic base to producers from Disney, Lucasfilm, Activision, etc.
Regarding the milestone reached with the latest VC funding, Matt Candler, CEO of Studio369, stated the following in a press release:
“We are excited to see that some of the most important companies and influencers in the gaming industry continue to share and support our vision of MetalCore. The additional funding will help us further perfect and refine MetalCore to offer the most fun, engaging, and fantastic experience.”
The allocated funds will be used not only in the improvement of the blockchain game, but also in the implementation of a dynamic mission system never seen before that leverages artificial intelligence to generate unique assignments, objectives, and tasks.
Furthermore, at Studio 369 they also thought of integrating the Immutable zkEVM ecosystem into the game, in order to allow developers to implement custom smart contracts using gasless interaction.
The studio plans to hire additional long-term partners and expand the ecosystem to millions of players.
