VSPO, a Shanghai-headquartered esports company, has announced a new pan-Asia multi-title esports tournament. The competition is called the Esports Asian Champions League (ACL) and will run for about 6 months with more than 7 esports titles.
VSPO is working with Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup (EWC) for the ACL. As a part of this, both entities are working together to select the games to be a part of the pan-Asian tournament, including how these competitions can seed into the Esports World Cup 2025. Additionally, the tournament will be run by a newly assembled Asia Champions League Foundation. In a release, VSPO said that this foundation will have its own management.
“A key focus of ACL is to create more opportunities for top teams from different Asian countries to compete throughout the year,” said Jonny Wang, VSPO’s co-founder and the new chief executive of the ACL. “More high-stake regional rivalries are something that fans would love to see and what we want to deliver through ACL.”
Esports Asian Champions League (ACL): Everything we know so far
The goal of the ACL, per the release, is to allow athletes of different esports titles across Asia to compete with others through the cloud – making it the “most diverse and accessible esports event to date.” There will also be “AI-powered immersiveness” in these competitions, which could be referring to digital arenas as shown in the Esports ACL Concept Video released by VSPO on YouTube.
While the current list of titles in the ACL hasn’t been revealed, the video showed Street Fighter 6, League of Legends, and PUBG: Battlegrounds (the PC game).
VSPO added that the long-term vision for the league was to set a standard for the future of “cloud-based, virtual, immersive, sporting tournaments.”
The timeline of when this league will be launched, however, wasn’t revealed. Given that Esports Asian Champions League aims to run for about 6 months in its inaugural season and feed into the Esports World Cup – which will happen in the summer of 2025 – players can expect more details before the end of the year.
